Cooking issue. . . . . Follow

Ok, I am at 424/425 cooking on Bloodhoof US. I have spent close to 20 hours fishing stacks of fangtooth herring and worg haunch for my ONE SKILLUP to 425. I have spent 700G in the AH on mat's for getting ONE skillup. I can not under ANY circumstances get from 424 to 425 and to say the least it is REALLY pissing me off. Does anyone have ANY ideas?

Critter Bites will take you all the way to 450 and the chilled meat is way easier to farm/cheaper to AH (although they don't sell for jack on my server anymore sadly).

Since you can fish, you might want to consider Blackened Dragonfin - the dragonfin angelfish are easy enough to catch and the finished product sells on the AH for good money - it'll give you a chance to relax as well as replenish some of that 700g.

Sadly, it sounds like you've just hit an unlucky stretch - I'd give it a rest for a bit so your RNG has time to reset and you personally have time to calm down.

Best drop rate for chilled meat is off the giraffes and dreadsabers that kill them in Sholozar.

Good Luck

If you have some decent AoE, the seals on the southeast tip of Howling Fjord are great to farm for chilled meat.

The reason people are mentioning critter bites and dragonfin is that not all green recipes are created equal. Most of the stuff that’s green at 424 will turn grey at 425, making skilling up with them difficult. Here’s a complete list of recipes that don’t turn grey at 425 and are therefore better investments of your northern spices:

Blackened Dragonfin
Blackened Worg Steak
Critter Bites
Cuttlesteak
Dragonfin Filet
Hearty Rhino
Rhinolicious Wyrmsteak
Snapper Extreme
Spiced Mammoth Treats
Tracker Snacks

I personally leveled past 424 with Snapper Extreme, which sells quite well on my AH, but I know a lot of non-fishermen do it with Hearty Rhino, since it’s so easy to AoE farm the stuff in Borean Tundra, just north of the Horde starting town.

Double bonus farming them if you're a skinner.

Noooooooooooooo!!!! We need to help those seals propagate, they are an endangered species!

I suspect you two are agents of that criminal, Nessingwary. As an official little DEHTA PITA, I strenuously object! (movie quotes for 300 Alex!)

You will not get away with this!

Seal walks into a bar and the bartender asks "What'll yah have?"
Seal responds "Anything but a Canadian club on the rocks."

Orange for any profession except skinning is a guaranteed skillup. If it doesnt work with something thats still orange, contact a GM as its a bug.

Doesnt orange have a very very low change of no skill up?

If so, I haven't noticed. But with cooking (I'm still working on it, so I'm not completely sure about this), so far all receipes I've bought with the daily awards are just green to me anyway (I'm not too far from Fish Feast, so I don't know what color that one is), so there wouldn't be an "orange" recipe anyway.

Note: I do realize I may or may not be wrong about this... was just pointing out what I've found so far with the recipes I do have... so close to Fish Feast, but so far away.

To the OP - 424 may be bugged/intentional hell level as there's at least two people in my guild complaining that they're stranded there as well.

Back in EQ the tradeskills all had known "hell levels" which would take an extrodinary number of combines to get past - we never knew if it was a bug or an intentional time/resource sink (considering that the game was designed around sinks it was suspected the latter).

Its been too long since I've done that skill level for me to remember if that point was exceptionally difficult but now that we've got three people having issues with it, this might be the case.

A common misperception persists that each color represents a particular percentage chance for a skill-up. This is completely reversed. At each skill level, Blizzard has pre-determined a particular likelihood of a skill-up, and then a color is assigned to represent that chance. Some yellow recipes are nearly guaranteed to skill-up, but less than 100%, while others have just over a 50% chance. If it's a green recipe that will turn grey after a skill-up, then it's likely that the chance of a skill-up is much closer to ZERO than to 50%.

Hence, you have emmitsvenson's post above, wrt green cooking recipes that are superior for profession levelling purposes than the other green cooking recipes in the 420-424 range. I truly regret being unable to rate that post up as many times as it deserves. Please suggest to your complaining guildies that they attempt one of these recipes and they will hit 425 within 3-4 tries.

Hoyadin is right.

Orange recipes give a 100% chance but when it goes yellow it normally still has a 90%+ chance of giving a skill up.

Oh no, I understand that some recipes are better then others, thus why I suggested going with the critter bites. What I was observing is that we've got the OP and two of my guildies stranded at this skill point, thus requiring us to take a look at the possiblity of this being a potential hell level for some reason.
