The FAQ above seems to be Vanilla-wow centric and hasn't been updated since TBC. Does anyone have a perspective on how the two specializations compare in WotLK for a still-young warrior (66 atm)?

I am an armorsmith so I can't comment on the weapon side of things. This was one of my complaints when the level increased to 450 yet there were no specialized items for the different skills. I seem to remember one of the blue posters on the OBoards stating that more items may come in 3.1.

I guess, to narrow it down:

1) Is one more tank-friendly and one more dps-friendly?

2) Is one cheaper/easier to level/easier to retail than the other?

3) Are they both basically the same until they get unique items in an upcoming patch (which would make the difference mainly in the lvls between 200 and 450)?

Well, I am an weaponsmith, and I must say I am very dissapointed with it currently. It seems to me both weapon and armorsmith are basically the same at this point, until a patch comes along to add some items. Just make your titansteel every 20 hours and save up some frozen orbs for now.
Also read the test realm patch notes often to see what is up and coming.
