Ever feel bad buying something to DE?Follow

#1 Jan 26 2009 at 9:03 PM Rating: Decent
So I'm working my way through the AH looking for DE bait and I saw a number of items that had dirtcheap bid prices but high buyouts that were really quite nice.

I bid on them as my chanter needs the mats but I gotta admit that I felt kind of bad and was hoping that someone would buy them out to use rather then me ending up DEing them (nothing my alts could use so the stuff is definately dying).

Ever feel that way yourself or am I just too much of a softy?

You are too much of a softy. Whenever I get something nifty on bids, I feel its because no one else wants it, or that they have something better. I have very few qualms about bidding.

Indeed. Although not for DE, I bought out a Titansteel Impact Ring for 14g recently. I have no idea what the guy was thinking when he listed that.

If they wanted more cash than their bid price, they should have upped their bid price.

I have seen the low bid and high buyout prices horde side on my server and do buy them to either DE or resell , i guess that is why my Mage has over 7000g , it does me wonder on their thinking though because as i use auctioneer i see they are listed at sometimes 999% ( max % ? ) over the going rate and i doubt they would ever sell at that , my guess is they have not even checked up on what the DE price is as i always make sure my minimum price is at least equal to it.

Pre TBC i would buy every runecloth belt on the AH and DE them, the matts i got fomr them way outweighed the price i was paying for them.

If you find a good deal for a item you can DE, take it, there will always be more that someone can buy for their alt.

Oh no - guess I wasn't clear - I don't feel bad that someone put a 100g item up for 10g, I feel bad that I'm buying something that someone would use just to shard it. I see [garment] of the bandit for 5g and think "Woot, dust/essence" someone else sees it and thinks "Woot, upgrade!" That's what I meant.

Ah hell man, they have the same options at the AH that you do. NO reason to worry about that, and if you are, why not start giving a few pieces away in a major city here and there to make up for your guilt :P

But Rusttle shouldn't be feeling guilt at all:

1) If someone wanted/needed it, they could have outbid Rusttle, therefore no one else wanted/needed it.
2) If even another enchanter wanted it, same as #1, therefore Rusttle didn't have any competition (even) for the item.
3) Rusttle wasn't taking it away from his mother. That would've made him feel feel guilty, but it didn't happen.

Late Monday a couple of weeks ago, I bid on 3 titansteel bars for 25 G, logged in after maintenance the next day, and I won. I didn't feel bad. If the guy selling wanted a bidding war, he wasn't going to get what he wanted timing his auction to end while maintenance was going on. I never put a starting bid so low for fear of this very thing happening.

When I buy for mats, I decided that day (after looking at items) how much I wish to spend on each item. I did all of 250-350 enchanting buy buying items on the AH for 2-10gold each, DEing, and then giving free Enchants (w/e one I was using to skill up) to anyone who wanted them.

I never fell bad about placing a bid on an item, buying out, or seeing if the creator is still online (to buy right from them) for Mats.

I use Enchantrix, so I know what to get. Its not like i blindly buy a bunch of items and hope to get the mats i want >.>

you're a softy.

I welcome low prices on items so I can d/e them and use the mats. I normally make stuff to d/e but even that supply runs out. Not to mention, recently, I went through about 400g worth of mats for maybe 20 points in gain, so yea, I'd love it if more stuff was available for cheap.

Considering I get the majority of my in-game income from this very process...

No.

I run the Vendor search option when I scan with Auctioneer, and it amazes me how much stuff people put up on the auction house with bids that are lower than the vendor value of the item. I'll typically get a full bag of items to vendor, and make a profit selling them. The seller has to be taking a loss, because they would have made more selling them to the vendor, and they had to pay an auction fee to list them.

When I buy for DE, I'll keep something if one of my alts or guild members can use it, but like they said above, "If somebody else wanted it, they would have outbid me".
