A few JC questionsFollow

I am thinking about taking up JC on an alt and I need some info please, if you can help.

1. Can I take JCing on an alt that does not have rep and is not of max level? Are the current good cuts tied to something that only a level 80 with rep can do? Meaning, can I make profit with JCing if that char is not level 80 and wont be for a good while? Will I be missing on something?

2. If the answer to the above is Yes, What would be the minimum level my alt can be to fully enjoy JCing? Prospecting, cuts and daily JC..etc?

3. Has any of you recently leveled JCing? How much did it cost you (I have mining by the way), approximately, so I can see what I´m up against.

4. Do you recommend a certain JC leveling guide or is there one I should steer clear off? I have found several guides myself, but as I saw when I leveled other professions, some guides are better than others, and not by very small margins, when it comes to the leveling cost.

5. And speaking of leveling JC are there any tricks easily missed or not very obvious for making the process easier on the pocket?

Thanks!

Not an expert on JC'ing but can add a little info.

1. yes you will be missing out on running JC dailies and most of the high end cuts/making money if you're not at least 80 with a decent amount of rep (decent being revered with most factions)

2. minimum level to do dailies I think is 70 and then JC skill of probably 350 not totally sure on that tho.

3. Leveling cost I've heard will run you around 2k for the various cuts and supplies and that's being a miner to get your own ore and the occasional gem.

can I make profit with JCing
Like many people will tell you the crafting professions will rarely make you a lot of money, and especialy not being 80 with some decent rep and a guild that has all 10 man raids and some of the 25 man raids on farm will hurt as well.

I get the impression that you're thinking that you can use your new JC alt to fund your other toons.....trust me that's not really going to happen. It's nice to have a toon that can cut gems for your other toon, but as far as making money goes, it's been said countless times, but gathering skills will always net you some decent profits for the amount of time you put into them

Totally disagree. Depends on server of course but on mine stack of saronite ore sells for ~35g. Most gems go for twice that. Hence prospecting all all ore You can get is going to net You more profit then simple mining.

If Your server is completely filled with JC and lacks miners it can be different.

I don't think lvling JC is that pricy. It's much shorter grind than BS for example. Thorium part is bit annoying though. And yes You can make very decent money by having an alt without reps. prospecting Your ore and selling raw gems is one thing, another is selling all Your dragon's eyes(if You are not interested in designs) for very very good money. It's daily that takes 5 mins and those gems sell for usually 300g on my server.

I funded my main(epic flying, very fancy and expensive BoE epics) and my 2 alts(epic flying) and im still sitting on 20k g. Most of the profit coming from JC.

I´ve done a bit of searching, let´s see if I got it right:

Leaving aside rep designs, my profit could come from prospecting and selling the raw gems or using them for myself and thus saving the money.

Also from selling the Dragon´s Eye. The DragonEye comes from either daily quests or from Icy Prisms.

The dailies all except one require minimum char level 65 (necklace one needs 77) and skill minimum 375. Icy Prism trainable at 425. (Oh by the way, I can learn 425 skill at level 65 right? :S)

Can someone tell me please, I could not find, what is the minimum JC skill to prospect Saronite?

I will have to check my AH more carefully but I think I could make good profit without cutting, just from gems and DragonEye. I´d also be in it for the fun.

1) Just make sure it is high enough to be in Northrend to do the daily (almost all of the dailies are completable in Howling Fjord, so be at least 68, but 70/71 is better).

2) Answer is above

3) Just did it a week and a half ago. I spent around 1-1.5k. I leveled my DKs mining at the same time so I didn't have to spend a lot. I spent most of my money buying out stacks of ore for the past 30 points or so as I was getting tired of running circuits on the DK when he wasn't going to get many skillups. The most money that I spent was on old-world high level gems (large opal, etc) -- were going for around 5-10g a piece -- at which time I starting buying stacks of thorium/mithril (depending on what I needed) and prospecting (the stacks were around 40-50g a stack).

I ended up making it all back for the most part within 48 hours by either D/Eing or selling the old stuff. Don't plan on making any money selling BC gems though. I just vendored all of mine that I made for 25s a piece.

4) I used a mixture of the guide on wowwiki, almostgaming, and lootables. Just use whatever is cheapest at that level, sometimes you have to stretch out a couple of skillups.

5) Leveling the mining was great at the same time, had most of the mats that I needed/would need while doing it (at least in terms of bars/ore/stones).

I'm levelling my 2nd JCer right now and I used a guide to know beforehand what mats I would have to farm and how many. That helps a lot. Other than that, a lot of the guides are not that good because as you say, they differ in mats and that can cost you hundreds of gold. For example a lot of guides don't take the stone statues into account. If you are a miner you get those for free as a side product, even if you have to buy them from the AH they are cheaper than any ore or bars. Squeeze every skill point out of them that you can, especially dense stone statues, they save a lot of thorium and expensive gems.

Once you have some mats stocked up you can just lvl bit by bit, check what recipes become available and if they are cheaper in mats than what you are currently making. Also depends on server economy of course. There are two recipes that are bought from a vendor that save a lot of money over the trainer ones, one is Pendant of the Agate Shield and the other one is Blazing Citrine Ring.

If you're a miner yourself and don't mind farming quite a lot of ore, it really isn't that expensive. If you have enchanting aswell, it can even make you money to level the two profs together.

Edit: If you find yourself thinking half way through the 1-300 range that it sucks and you wanna give up, don't, it gets way cheaper in Outland and Northrend where you only have to cut one green gem to gain a skill up, at least in the beginning.
