about the bracer slotFollow

#1 Jan 24 2009 at 8:20 AM Rating: Decent

I have been looking around and it now posible for BS player to be able to have a socket on a bracer.

So my question is:

Can you use the item to socket a bracer AND put and enchant on it? Or is one or the other but not both?

Thank you.

You can have the socket and the enchant. I know this because I had the buckle and an engineering enchant on an old belt. However, you cannot have an enchant and an engineering enhancement on at the same time.

I don't think so. I have the LW "special" on my bracers, and cannot add an enchant also. It's one or the other. Assuming that socket is "crafter only" unlike the above mentioned belt buckle.

The LW special is itself an enchant, not a socket. That's like saying you can't get the inscription shoulder enchant to stack with the current one.

I don't know for certain, because I haven't seen the tooltip for the socket. But every profession has what I term a "special" that is for the user only. For LWs it's Fur linings, for engineers it's the glove and boot add-ons, etc. The LW one isn't an enchant, it's a "fur lining".

From my experience, normal enchanter enchants do not stack with the profession specials. I do not have experience with the BS socket specials though. I'm gonna guess they don't stack, but the only way to know for certain is to try it. I'm sure a tooltip will ask you to confirm if it would actually replace teh other rather than stack.

From googling a bit I found:

http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t38534-dps_spreadsheets/p2/

(one of the first few posts on that page has the question followed by an answer) and also another one on mmo-champion. Basically state that you can go BS + LW and get fur linings and sockets on your bracers.

For the sockets:

A BS makes the socket - I know this.

Do you need to be a BS to install it?

Do you need to be a BS to equip the socket'ed bracer. (aka - it makes it a BS only Bracer?)

The Bracers socket is for the Blacksmith who makes it only. Only the belt socket can be applied to anyone's belt by anyone.

Adding a socket is not an enchant. Just as putting a Unique(3) gem in a socket (the JC-only special) is not an enchant.

Linings, Inscriptions, Ring Enchants, etc ARE permanent enchants. Just because an enchanter doesn't make it doesn't mean it's not an enchant. Blacksmiths make shield spikes and Titanium Plating and those are all permanent enchants.

The idea of being able to socket a bracer and thus not being able to enchant would be utterly ridiculous. Take for instance spell power you can enchant bracers with 23 spell power and the best non JC gem is +19. It is very similar for the other stats. So who in their right mind would take up BSing to socket their gear when the enchant anyone can get is better.

Edited for accuracy.

You CAN have the BS socket (if you are a BS) on a bracer (or set of gloves) AND an enchant on it as well. I'm a BS and have both on my gloves and bracers.

However if you change from BSing you cannot keep the socket.
