Frozen Orbs... WTF?!Follow

So now a lot of the desirable LW recipies need Frozen Orbs, but they only drop from Heroic Boss's. That kinda screws me as a solo player who doesn't have a guild to run through dungeons.

Solo players always get a mini-shaft in this game when it comes to the end-game gear. On the other hand, being able to play 95% of the game solo is pretty good in and of itself. On the other other hand (Yes, I have three hands, I'm special that way) you can buy a Frozen Orb now that they aren't BoP, and earning the 2-300 gold they tend to go for (at least on Moon Guard) isn't really that hard on Northrend.

1. Frozen orbs are (and always have been) purchasable on the auction house.

2. You can always join a guild or run a PuG

3. If you are a solo player do you really need that fancy purple gear? Without playing with other people there isn't much to do that requires a high level of gear.

I'd just like to say while WoW is rather solo friendly, easily the most solo friendly MMO I've played and I've played a number, it is still an Massive Multiplayer Online Game. As such it should not be possible for top end gear to be gotten by those who do not wish to group. Be glad that in WoW unlike most other MMOs it is possible to solo all the way to max level on every class.

Fortunately the market crashed since the early days of the xpac and they seem to be under 50g on the majority of servers.

Now I realize that 50g is still 50g, but if its any consulation, as a player who does have a guild and the time to do a lot of heroics and raids, the LW gear (feral druid at least) has held up swimmingly for me - if you have no hope of running heroics or raids then its about as epic as you could ask for (at 80, I was head to toe in LW armor I made myself).

Option 2, which is what I intend for my alts as I doubt they'll get to raid much, is to play the heck out of Wintergrasp when it comes back up.

Don't fret either - I'm not much of a PVP person myself, but trust me, WG is really fun whether you're on offense or defense and you'll pick up a crap-load of honor in the process win or lose!

There's some rather shiny PvP gear out there now that only costs straight honor to buy, so running the heck out of WG and then working the other BGs on their double honor weekends will easily net you some great gear to supplement your LW produced stuff.

Around 30-50g on Twilight's Hammer, the price seems to have adjusted itself.

Frozen Orbs are used to make epic gear and now, epic augments. They aren't necessary for solo play. You don't need epic leg kits to kill non-elite level 80 world mobs. You don't need epic anything, actually. It's nice to have, but you're not going to suddenly arrive in Icecrown to do your dailies and zomfg the regular mobs are too hard for me to kill when I'm level 80!

They don't just drop from heroic bosses...you can buy them for 10 emblems of heroism. Of course, you have to be running heroics or 10-man raids to get emblems of heroism, but there are a TON of players who have maxed out the gear they can get with EoH, so the next best alternative is to buy Frozen Orbs and flog them on auction for a bit of extra gold.

I'm afraid you won't find much sympathy for your inability to easily access end-game items in an MMO where 90% of endgame involves groups. If you want the lewtz, you have to take part in the content. If you can't/won't take part in the content, the loot will always be that much more difficult (if not impossible) for you to get. That's just the way it is and the way it will always be.

I'm very glad for the Frozen Orb change.
Being a leather worker I can use the LW only leg enchants for myself.

I bought up every single purple leg armour on the AH (around 90g each) for around 5k gold and I'm now selling them for 250g a piece.
Should clear 10k gold pretty soon and I've only sold half of them!

I didn't quite go that far, but I did have my LW alt head out and gather the stuff I needed to have a couple of extra Frosthide kits set aside for my pally. Realistically speaking, I won't be seeing any leg upgrades until Ulduar anyways, so 2 will last me for some time. By the time I need more, I'll have so many EoH saved up it won't phase me at all to nab a Frozen Orb from time to time.

Ok, several good points have already been made here, and I may be repeating some but here goes:

1. If you are a solo player, you should have plenty of gold to buy frozen orbs with.

2. If you are a solo player, you don't need tons of epics.

3. If you play for even 1 hour at a time that is enough time to get into a heroic and complete it.

I find the Arctic furs a bigger pain in the *** to get. At least with the Orbs I know exactly when and where they drop.

How about pvp? You can play solo (i.e without a guild), but would still want the epic weapons in order to stand a chance in BGs and Wintergrasp.

You earn those by...wait for it...participating in BGs/WG!

Let's take my lock for example - he didn't have his tailoring up high enough to make his toys before the change so if he wants the epic tailoring stuff, he needs to score the orbs. Since I'm not wasting that kind of resource on an alt, that means he's pvping it, fortunately, he hits WG every chance he gets and as such, was able to buy the PvP hat as soon as he dinged 80.

He will continue to work the BGs for honor and badges and do non-group quests and dailies for rep and gold - when he gets enough of one or the other he gets to upgrade.

Stop judging. And I'm not saying that because I think you're a Paladin. Even solo players like to have a goal and leveling a profession to make the best gear in that profession is a laudable goal. Just because you and I may like to raid, or George and Fred may like to PvP, doesn't mean everyone has to join a guild, raid, or PvP.

Same goes for the others who are advising that the OP doesn't need the top gear in the game. He's not asking for the top gear, he's not asking to have Naxx gear, Eye gear or OS gear available to him. He's asking why he can't make the best gear in his chosen profession. This forum has never been filled with leet before, it has always been tradeskill-friendly answering any tradeskill-related question without any negativity. Take the leetness to the general forum or your class forum.

OP: codexia has really summed it up. There are an awful lot of dailies and a good many of them take no time at all. I guess that's the only path left for you. Good Luck!

-_-

Fail.

Epic PvP weapons only come from Arena and require rating and points to purchase. MAYBE in future seasons they will be relegated to honor purchases, but right now this statement is false.

Well, if you're talking about level 80. I assume no one wants lower level weapons, epic or not :-P
