Tailoring SpecialtiesFollow

#1 Jan 14 2009 at 8:39 PM Rating: Decent
So I've recently returned to WoW, and have been trying to look through here to find out the benefits/drawbacks of the three different cloth focuses (Well, 6 with WotLK, but the new three are kind aextensions of the old).

I know Mooncloth is really good for Priests, as it focuses on healing.

Spellweave and Shadowweave can both be good for Mages and/or Warlocks, depending on their focus. That is what I'm curious about.

What is a good way to choose? What criteria should I use?

Thanks for the help.

Also, if there is such things already addressed on the boards, a point in the right direction would be ever so appreciated :) Thanks again.

We don't know beans about the new stuff. Tailoring is currently
under mushroom management. Maybe we'll see some recipes with 3.1
but who knows? But be advised that everything you knew about
the three specialties is no longer as before. There was a major
change in a 2.4ish patch such that any clothie class could use
any of the recipes because we now use spellpower. Healing and
spell damage go off the same attribute.

IIRC Spellweave had crit bonuses, Shadowweave had + to hit bonuses,
and Mooncloth had greater spellpower.

About the only other aspect of the three specialties is the bags - shadow gives you the lock soul shard bag, mageweave gives you a chanter mats bag and moon gives you a regular bag.

The only problem is that all of these bags are currently moot since you can make better with a higher tailoring skill now.

In theory, there's also going to be a unique magic carpet for each specialty so I'd assume each carpet has a different look to it.

So is there any restrictions on getting the bag pattersn for alternate specialties?

And what was the set up pre-WotLK, what was a good way to go for 'Locks, assuming you wanted to wear your own stuff.

My lock went with Shadoweave. In fact the set was so good that I didn't replace it until I hit about lvl 78. (Of course I rarely run instances or pvp, so your mileage may vary.) Not only did it help my shadow spells, and give a nice stamina boost, but it also healed me whenever I damaged someone.

Unless they've changed things the really good BOP purples are for the tailor with the specialty only. So a spellweave specialist couldn't make as big a soulstone bag as my Shadoweave one, and so on. But as per above, the WotLK items have made all that pretty irrelevant.

I went shadow as a lock at the time since the shadow cloth gave shadow damage bonus and I could make the bag for the soul shards.

The gear is still worth making since at 75 I'm still wearing the set (though I have had some stuff come close to upgrading it) and the soul bag wont be replaced for at least another level or three till I get my rep up with the faction that sells the new bag pattern.

If memory serves, it costs 150g to erase the old spec and then you've gotta pay the cost for the new spec again.

You can switch specs at the spec trainers in Shat, not sure if they'll also let you do it in Dal though.

been looking for an answer to this because i want to be sure, but when you respec tailoring you stay at the tailoring lvl your at and just lose the specialty and you dont have to lvl tailoring from 1-350 like you used to correct? was gonna go spellfire for my spriest since shadoweave has no real bonus to it anymore, then respec to mooncloth for healing at 80, but if i have to re lvl tailoring then ***** that

That is correct. you do not have to re-level anything, just pay the gold.

And that's why I call it the "Turn your caster into a Spriest" set.

The coding for them is in the game, just hasn't been released yet - there was a thread a while back linking them all.

Recall that there are few to no 450 level recipes for the various tradeskills as well, leaving the majority assuming that there will be additional recipes released in future patches - perhaps the specialty carpets will be 450 skill and/or unique drops in certain instances?

Ah, here's the wowwiki on the five different carpets - http://www.wowwiki.com/Flying_Carpet
