minimum 12,500 gold for engineer to buy the goods, and the rest can be farmed easily. I have the mats and enough gold but no one in my guild has a 450 engineer and my engineer alt is only level 68 and will not be able to get exalted anytime soon, or getting from 375 to 450 engineering skill as well.

So if I get the 12,500 gold and mats, what would be the suggested tip for engineer to make the mount? I'm thinking 500g.

Someone tried to get one made and was offering 5g tip (plus only 10kg total for all the mats) and got laughed out. That person hasn't been on for 2 weeks now. It's hard to tell if he got laughed out for not offering enough to cover the vendor only mats (let alone the rest that can add another 3-4kg) or the 5g tip. Either way he was a first rate noob or a bad scammer.

My guideline is 10% of mat cost. If the mats cost 12,500, then the tip should be 1,250.

Yep, it's not fun to try to get to 450 eng and the rep. I don't think 1250 is bad but if you're a random guy off the street asking me to make it, I certainly wouldn't accept less than 500g. I think the cost to make it deters a lot of ppl. Maybe they think it's a waste of money too. But be prepared to pay for this luxury item.

As an 450 engineer, I would /laugh at anyone who offered less than 1000 gold to make the hog.
It takes a lot of time, gold and effort to go to 450 Eng. and become exhalted. If it were
easy, everyone would do it...

As a fellow 450 engineer, I don't charge fees for crafting stuff because regardless of the fact that it IS a pain to level engineering and reputations, I didn't do it to make money. I did it because those were goals I wanted to accomplish for myself. Any tips I get are irrelevant since I make plenty of money on the AH.

Just thought I'd point out that people do things for different reasons :p

P.S. Does anyone find it hilarious that the licence plate on the chopper reads PWN?

It costs a lot to level a lot of professions, but I don't see enchanters charging exorbitant fees to do enchants that require 450 enchanting (including a very expensive enchanting rod). I personally leveled engineering to 450 on my hunter and found it very cheap to level compared to enchanting and the rep is not difficult to level. Certainly, the engineer should be paid extra for the effort to fly out and buy the mats etc, but I don't think the cost of leveling the profession should be taken into account when charging people.

500g for the 5 minutes taken to buy the mats and make the item is a pretty good score in my opinion. Of course, engineers are entitled to charge what they like for doing it and I have no problem with that, but I personally would be very happy with 500g for that amount of time taken.

People aren't so much talking about the cost to level Eng as the cost of the item itself.

Additionally, this item is a pure vanity item and one of the few Eng items in any kind of demand so nothing really all that wrong/bad with Eng's wanting to finally recoup some of their investment.
