1. How do I get it so I can socket items? Or is that simply a very-high-level thing?

2. Why do they put the only jewelcrafter in azeroth a boat-ride from the northern corner of kalimdor? For me, from sentinel hill (so I can do the deadmines on my 20-ish shaman jewelcrafter) to level up the skill I have to fly to menethil, boat to auberdine, boat to exodar, then hearth back. That's a long journey. With a potential for 10-15 minutes time waiting for boats, like 6 minute time boat ride, and a decent amount of time on the griffon. Why can't they put one in SW or IF? Or even let you fly to The two Isle's rather than boat?

Only gear obtained in the Outlands (Level 58+) will have socketed items as far as I know.

Jewelcrafting can only be learned by those who purchased the expansion, and only those who have the expansion can go to the Exodar (Alliance), Silvermoon City (Horde), or the Outlands to learn it. So, while it is an inconvenience, it's necessary as part of the expansion limitation.

They COULD make it so you have to have already had jewelcrafting, i.e. how some trainers say "I can't help you yet, you need to talk to the other trainer first". It's just really annoying sometimes taking up like 45 minutes just to learn 4 new recipes.

well, instead of flying and taking boats, just ask a nice mage (lvl 65+) in SW to have a portal to the Exodar. That's much faster and only a little more expensive.

I agree that the limitation seems pointless (not enough thought went into it?). Anyway the only way that I can see to deal with it is to make one of the towns with a trainer your home. Then you only have to deal with the delay to get back to where you were. Of course this also uses up your hearth, but then I don't use it unless it is needed, and do not just hearth back to raise my training level.
