Pre Burning Crusade, there was a max level of 325 possible with both skinning weapons and the gloves enchant, but this high of a level was uneccesary because no mobs or bosses in the game were higher than level 63 thereby requiring only 315 skinning. I'm wondering if there is any word on what the level cap will be now that burning crusade has been released, and what would we be able to skinn at that high of a level. I assume there are no new skinning enchants, and I've heard of no new +skinning weapons, so is the level cap now 400? And will that high of a skinning level even be neccesary?

finkles skinning knife doesn't need wielding at all as least since patch 2.0, it just has to be in your bag.
You're half right.
Finkles Skinner and Zulian Slicers now count as skinning knives, so you don't have to have a skinning knife in your bag, just a Zulian or Finkles, in order to be able to skin. However, it does not add to your skinning if it is not equipped. So while you do not need to equip it to skin, and do not need to also have a skinning knife in your bag, you do need to equip Finkles Skinner or Zulian Slicer to actually add the +10 to your effective skill.

I reached level 375 in my skinning and am wondering is that it? I reached this level in 3-4 days of grinding just in Hellfire Peninsula near Falcon Watch and I'm only level 64 now. Does anyone know if there is a Grand Exaulted Skinner to go further? Curious. And is 400 only possible with all the bonus stats to skinning (gloves, daggers, etc.)
