Recipe: Savory Deviate DelightFollow

#1 Jan 18 2007 at 5:57 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all, I've been trying to get this recipe for my warlock, as she has a decent level of cooking. I know it's a world drop from the Barrens, and, according to Thottbot, the best mob to farm for it are thunderheads. I spend about 2 hours last night killing them, and did not get the drop. I was wondering if anyone here could give some advice on what are the bests mobs to kill for this recipe? Thanks in advance!

I'd check the AH mobs...

I should have mentioned that I do not want to buy this recipe off the AH.

Then you are doomed to suffer the Barrens? Seriously, I think it's cool you want to farm the recipe but it's a random rare drop off any mob in the Barrens. If data suggests the thunderheads drop it more often, then that's probably the best you can do.

Not sure how exactly you decided that the Thunderheads were the best to farm - I see them listed as 0.02%, compared to several others in the 0.03-0.07% range. A few of the rare spawn bosses are even up in the 0.11% range.

But I suspect that all of the number sbetween 0.02 and 0.07 are really reflecting the same drop rate, just over different numbers of kills and with some random variability based on noise in relatively small numbers. That 0.02% drop among the Thunderheads reflects only 80 recipes dropped in almost 390,000 kills. you'd have to kill almost 5000 of them to reasonably be disappointed in not seeing a recipe drop. Based on all the other numbers in the table, it would seem reasonable that if you still want to farm for the recipe, just kill every animal in the Barrens - after say 2000 kills start worrying about not having seen one yet and how long it might take to get one, and after about 10000 kills you can start complaining about how poor your luck is in that you still haven't seen one and you should have expected to see at least 2 by now...

I always seem to get my recipes from turtles around the Oasis I'm fishing at. The recipe seems to drop fairly often. After learning it myself, I've actioned off many others (and cheaply, at that!). Of course, if you do buy at the AH, Murphy is bound to get mad and you'll get it on your next Barrens drop.

If you are not willing to go to AH for it then it is just a matter of luck. One night it dropped twice for me in a span of about 30 minutes, once off a plainstrider and once off one of the centaurs.

To tell you the truth, I bought this recipe off the auction house for a tidy sum. I turned around and fished to my hearts content, made a few Savory Deviate Delights, and placed them on the AH. Within 24 hours, I made up for all the gold I spent on the recipe. The return is worth the initial investment.

Last week I bought one off the Booty Bay AH for 10 gold. I then resold it in the Alliance AH for 35 gold. ;)

In the time it would take you to farm the recipe, you could have farmed the gold for this.

I've killed every kind of mob in the barrens many times with many char's, and I have yet to see this drop. It's kind of like the pattern for Green Whelp Armor, farming for it sounds good, but you may never see it. It had been selling on the Korialstraz horde side for 25 to 50g, but I saw it the other day for 4g and grabbed it up. Just keep looking out, a friend got one the other day for 20s...

Agree with the above post. Some people dont realise the value of what they are holding. im sure its the same for many items, but i have picked at least 3 Receipes for Savory Deviate Delight up from as little as 40s to 6g. All resold for around 15g. I check the AH every time i log on just to make sure.

Have fun with random farming. Of course, it drops fairly reasonably in WC, Iv been in and out of there and seen about 4-5.
