Gem slotsFollow

Scored my first peice of armor with gem slots and am now wondering how to upgrade it - is there any kind of guide listing where to buy the gems to put into the slots, what the gems do, etc?

The gems are made by the Jewelcrafting profession. Check the recipes list for gems that can be made. Start looking around the 300 skill level as only high level items have "sockets" for gems.

There's an introduction to Jewelcrafting here: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/jewelcrafting.html

You can see a list of available gem cuts on this site: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/skill.html?line=755

You can go to a Gem Vendor and browse their inventory for purchasable 'ready to socket' gems. There are also PvP reward gems you can get or you can get uncut gem drops, then seek out a Jewelcrafter to get a specific cut made for you.

First of all check out your PvP vendor in the first town/city you reached after going past the dark portal area. They have some decent (blue) rewards for marks (and give a repeatable quest for marks and rep). Gather a group of 5 guildys and go capture the towers aroud hellfire. We did this last night and I had enough marks in 20 minutes (you get a mark for every group kill when you're in the area) to buy 2 nice socketable gems - of course I don't have anything to put them in yet... nore have I actually purchased them... but they are better than the stuff you can buy from a normal gem vendor (though that is a temporary option).

What gems get put in depend on the item and your class. If you are a Warrior, you'll want different gems than a healer, for example.

Does anyone have a link to listing of gem slottable items? I searched, but did not find one.

That's something perhaps worth looking into, but generally, it's the boss drops from BC dungeons.

As far as where to get gems, jewelcrafters make them obviously (from mining and prospecting the ore,) and there are also gem vendors that sell low-quality versions of those gems. Once you have a gem, shift-right-click the item you want to socket and a window will open letting you drop gems into it.

There are droppable gem slotted items - I got a BOE leather helmet and it wasn't blue or purple.

Managed to find the gem venders and figured out how to put the gems in - another question - can you remove the gems and put other in thier place?
