Herb/Alch questionFollow

My question is wether these two professions NEED to go hand in hand.

My main was a herb/alch got him up to lv36 and got a bit bored so I started playing around with an alt. Liked it so much that my alt ended up passing my main and is now almost 40.

so now my new main went skinning/herbalism for pure money making. I send my herbs over to my alt (the alchemist) and he sends me back potions.

Now that I am getting higher in levels I wanted to know If I would be better off taking up alchemy on my new main insted of skinning of if my method of trading herbs for pots to my alt is workable. is there any reason I wont be able to make my lv36 alt into a full blodded alchemist? I know I am past the lvl cap so I can train it to 300 but is there any BoP stuff that he is going to need where I need him a higher lvl to get?

I like the money I can bring in from skinning on my main by just selling leather but I like the pots better and I just wanted to make sure I wasn't Hamstringing myself for later in the game. Id rather start over on alchemy now rather than later.

thanks in advance.

At this time, I am unaware of ANY BoP potions/flasks/elixirs*, but that doesn't mean the expansion won't introduce a BoP alchemy recipe. So sending herbs from your herbalist to your alchemist shouldn't be a problem.

However, your lower level alchemist may not have access to certain recipes because it's not high enough to gain the needed reputation (such as the recipes available when Honored/Revered with the Zandalar Tribe, the ZG faction). Also, Major Mana Potion is available only by going through a series of Scholomance quests.

* The exception is the Philospher's Stone but that is only used for transmutes, anyway.
