When fishing for oily blackmouth in various places, you always catch alot of alot of the raw albacore which I usually use for improving my cooking skill. The other day while posting auctions for my stacks of oily blackmouths, I inadvertently put a stack of 20 raw albacore up for auction. I was surprised when collecting my mail, as I had made 30s for the sale of the albacore. While averaging about one gold a stack for the blackmouths and firefins. With the typical catch ratios of three or four albacore for every blackmouth or firefin, this makes the albacore almost as valuable for sale as the other fish.
Then in IF the other day, I spotted a collection officer requesting cooked albacore for the war effort and rewarding you with 10 commendations and boxes of war supplies. I also think they were looking for another type of common fish but can't remember what it was. So, obviously people are buying them for the faction rep increases they can recieve.
So, I've started to market albacore and increased my profit margin on my fishing skill. Try it you might find a market for some of those so called junk fish. Or at least save them and get the commendations and rep increases for yourself.

That only applies to servers where the War Efford is still in effect. On a lot of servers it's been completed about a year ago.

So are you telling me that the war effort quests will run out some time or another and I won't be able to gain rep that way? If so then i feel i should do them shouldnt I? I am level 42.

That explains something that I hadn't thought about until you mentioned it. When I first started playing, I started with characters on older servers. I never saw the war collection effort in IF on the first two servers. When I started my rogue, I started on Fenris, one of the newer servers. I guess that is why the totals of items collected are fairly low.
I thought that the war collection effort was somehow connected to preparing for the new expansion. Anyway, since you can pick up some decent equipment people are willing to buy gathered materials at pretty decent prices. The price of linen cloth for making bandages has really gone up the last few days.

guessing Fenris is a non US server?
The war effort is pretty well done and dusted on all servers except the new ones

edit: hmm, Fenris is US server and I must be blind because I can't see it on the war effort page. or Blizzard are just really slow at adding newish servers.
