Worried I'll be brokeFollow

#1 Dec 18 2006 at 7:29 PM Rating: Decent
So I rolled on a different server. It's weird cuz I've always been use to having my 60 act as a "sugar daddy" for any alts I made and now I don't have that.

When I was lvling my first toon to 60 I had two gathering professions but I don't wanna do that again. Since I'm on a PvP server I'm thinking of doing mining/engineering for the PvP utility. Thing is I know engineering is the lowest profit profession in the game and I'm worried I'll be flat broke if I take it.

One thing I got use to with gathering professions is that I never really had to take time off to farm. I suppose if I took mining/engineering I could take breaks and mine or possibly take up fishing since I hear it's good for making money? I've never really fished though.

Yay for noob questions from lvl 60s!

with mining and fishing you should never be broke. Especially on a new server, so many people are trying to level up professions, mining should net you large amounts of gold. And fishing... deviate delights are wow crack, I made mount money for my hunter off just them.

Same here, i made an alt for playing at sever downtime (or when i feal like playing horde) and this alt is lvl 16 with mining and skinning saved up like 10 gold. Now i know that 10 g isnt THAT much but still will little effort (just questing and some pvp)and no sugerdaddy it IS a lot of money.

Just gather as much as you can and sell everything on AH. Although with BC comming up it prop. best to save up the ore, stones and gems as they will be needed by an extra tradeskill (jewel) and thus increase mining average value.

If it's a new server, don't go for the stonescale eels right away. It took Duskwood about three months before Eels finally made it to the point where they made enough money to be worth it. In the early stages of a server (under three months), most fish sell for a lot less than normal prices. That's OK, because most items in the AH are also lower than normal. You have to wait for the economy to develop a bit, but it will grow. Deviate fish (and Savory Deviate Delight, if you can get the recipe) are the exception, which will net the good gold in the early economy - I think everyone wants to be a pirate.

You can look into taking up herbalism/alchemy. Although it is a little dull, when you get into the higher-end herbs and potions, you can make decent money on the auction house. Also, there are cetain potions that cater to a certain class. Like Greater Fire Power, Greater Shadow Power, Rage Potions. (Added Bonus: you get health potions! And, you can give your warrior rage potions for instances...when I do it kinda ensures that he protects me!)

Another option would be tailoring/enchanting. You can enchant items you make and sell them on the auction house, or just sell the service of enchanting to people.

Skinning/leatherworking is also a good combo. You can, again, make and sell.

Skinning/enchanting. Enchanted leather will sell decently on the auction house.

Fishing can yeild good money. It is also a good thing to level up if you take up alchemy, as some fish are used in potions. If you aren't an alchemist, then selling the fish may also yeild some profit. Fishing can be very very very boring, which may be a reason some people overlook it.

Also, don't forget cooking. Cooking not only makes you food, but if you are a hunter you can feed your pet. Or, if you aren't a hunter you can sell the food that you make on the auction house for a small profit...or sell to a vendor.

Hope this is helpful!

I agree, However if you are not a hunter you should make friends with someone who is.. I play a dwarf pally and I fish all the time. A buddy of mine have a hunter she uses for farming and her tiger is always hungry. Since I'm im a healer, I only need fish for cash or for buffs (Nightfin Soup). I mail my whitescale salmon to her and she sends me "Aquadynamic Fish Attractors" (she's an engineer). I dont have to buying fishing lures and she doesn't have to buy food for her pet. Everbody wins!!

Fishing is the best trade in the game!!!

Also, If you have a Warrior or Pally? Need armor? Take up mining and skinning and have guildie "who is a blacksmith" make your armor. Just to be nice you might want to send him some excess leather since most blacksmiths are miners. You get your gear for nothing and he gets the leather and the trade xp he needs. And you both stay out of the AH. Friends don't let friends go broke.....
