I've been told that turtle scales are used in a specific type of leatherworking, I was just wondering if they were valuable enough to auction off. I apologize if this question has been answered before. I simply have no use for them and if other people do I don't want to vendor them away to nothingness.

It depends...

When I was levelling LW and getting the mats for the dragonscale quest I wailed on the Azshara turtles and got many, many scales. I managed to sell some on the AH. I usually put them in batch sizes suitable for lw. If I were you I wwould put up a couple of batches and see what happens. Price them reasonably and dont flood the market.

Turtle scales average around 2G/stack of 20. check prices on your realm first, because your mileage may vary. The easiest place to farm them is the shore of Dustwallow Marsh, north of Theramore.

I too have had some success selling turtle scales. But to be honest I’ve had more returned to me than I’ve sold.

They definitely can sell, I know when I was working my way through that line of leatherworking it was a real pain to grind the turtles. I checked AH (both Horde and neutral) regularly for shells. There were never enough.

On my server, there are always tons of people farming Steamwheedle, as well as off the coast of Hinterlands. Turtlescales are not for any specific type of LW, just the first mail you can make as one (along with the Scorpid items).

What I've found is that if you're a leveling LW, make the items from the mats and sell the mail. A little over cost for mats. Then, when they turn green, sell the mats on AH. Scorpid Scales sell much better on my server, but luckily you can get them both in the same place. Why I choose to farm TS is the side benefit of the Speckled Shell fragment, which drop at a unbelievable rate. A stack of 5 sell for around 45 silver, and with a merchant in the area, I can get easily 10g/hour as a 50+, plus have a few stacks of Turtlescale for AH fodder to boot. That is, of course dependant on others farming in the area.
