Changing my profession?Follow

#1 May 04 2005 at 5:30 AM Rating: Decent
My Elemental LW has hit 290 now and it's given me my 2 favourite pieces of armour; Helm of Fire and Gaunlets of the Sea. I also enjoy the benefits of my volcanic leggings. These were not easy to make and the farming (both in the field and on the AH) took at least a week for each piece. I'm not sure if it's because the European economy hasn't bedded in properly yet, but Auction house prices on these items fall massively short of the time/cost of the items to make them, so making profit from my LW doesn't seem viable. Also stacks of rugged leather just aren't selling, even at a very competitive price.

I have enjoyed learning LW and elemental was the right choice for me even if just for my lovely hat.

It seems until the the European economy picks up that the main purpose of any profession is to provide me with some good armour/items/food etc to use rather than make any profit.

That being said I can't see anything else that I'll be making in the future (without any patch) that I really want or need. I'm thinking that I should retrain in mining and engineering or blacksmithing so I can make a decent blue gun or bow for myself.

I just wondered if any LW out there had any advice to help me to stick with it?? Or can I even start another profession?? What would be a good choice for me to make bows or guns?? Or even decent ammo?

As always, thanks for any opinions or help you might have

I do not know the european servers' economy but the one message I'd convey is that professions are not *always* money makers *all* the time. I left leatherworking at around 180 to be a gatherer for my guild (herbalism/skinning) and eventually ditched hearbalism for enchanting.

Starting over sucks. It either means going to a low lev zone to gather your ingredients...for a while... or spending a ton of gold buying them at AH.

As far as selling raw goods - you may just be experiencing a side effect of a new server. Being high lev, you may not have that many customers. On my server rugged armor kits sell quite well. Helm of Fire is always in demand.

I can't tell you to stick with it because you may just be bored of it. I can tell you that hanging in there for a little while might help. If you're not in a guild, consider starting one. Being a high lev crafter that can supply the guild can be very rewarding.

I enchant for the entire guild. (At 255 right now and climbing) We've found crafted items that disenchant well and either sell the reagents or use them for guild enchantments. Reagents for a +7 dmg enchat go for 26G at our AH. By having craftsmen provide me the items for their enchant they effectively bypass the whole AH system.

Lastly - when are you putting the items up for sale? The biggest AH night on my server is friday night. People are shopping for their weekend of playing the game and things sell quickly.
