Changing professions when you are at 300Follow

#1 May 02 2005 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
I am a lvl 52 warlock with 300 in skinning and 290 in tailoring.

I don't grind for skins, but skin when beasts come along such as when I run the Sunken Temple ...so skinning is only a chance money maker for me.

Tailoring hasn't really taken me anywhere. About the only thing I can see as a possible nice thing is if an epic (300) pattern ever drops but that is probably never going to happen. I have NEVER made something for myself except for a bag or two (now use travelers). I am starting to make moon cloth now, but at 1 per 4 days, it seems almost not worth it.

I do have a bank full of soulbound and unused blue and greens however.

...so what I am trying to ask in a very round about way is if it is more worthwhile to ditch any profession infavor of 1) dual gathering profession 2) turn to "dissenchanting" or 3)otherwise?

Thanks for any advise!

there are many skill lvl 300 patterns outthere to get I have 4 a cloak with 215 armour and +7 defence, a robe of void which gives a spell to heal a pet for upto 300 helth, the belt of archemage and the mooncloth robe, I also have mooncloth bags and am now looking for more epic patterns. basically tailoring is useless untill you start to get hese patterns, but the biggest draw back is the stuff you have to collect to make them.

some serious changes need to be made to all the trade skill's possibly the best is alchemist because at least you can make something that you use everytime you go to adventure

THanks for your reply. I see what you mean about those high lvl drops, but I have yet to see one drop with group I have been in nor within my guild (which is quite large).

Well all up to you but i can take a look at a few things.

1) dual gathering profession
Quote:

well why would you start then? Most Dule gathering foks take skinning as one of them to avoid the map tracking mess( can only track herbs or veins not both at the same time)

2) turn to "dissenchanting"
This sounds to be your best bet, to me (I could be wrong), it just dosent sound like the whole Porfesison thing is the game stealer for ya, and theirfore just enjoy playing the game.

If that is the case, stay as a tailor, and take up enchanting, learn how to make moon cloth (it always sells well).Dont worry about making armor, just make moon cloth it is virtualy money due to limited supply(cooldown on making it). Then dont even enchant(unless you want to), just disenchant stuff and sell the reagents. I have a guildie that can make 20 gold on a SM run by just disenchanig everythign and selling the shards/dust....... ya get the idea, or , start enchantign, their is some good money in high level enchants.

Hope that helps

Umm untill you die, then it goes away, Alchemy rox , and it is eazy, but is the only tradskill that makes no Permenent items, folks can also Purge alchemy buffs too, just not the flask(giant PITA for those too)

Alchemy does make 'permanent' items if you look at the transmute capability :-) Making truesilver with your Philosophers Stone isn't fast, but it can be very helpful.

Generally speaking I would never recommend dropping a tradeskill to put alchemy on a primary character though. It can just as well be practised by an alt or a guildie since the pots aren't soulbound. Better to keep going with tailoring/skinning and start a new character with herb/alchemy if you want pots.

Beyondgomer,

Here's my two cents.

If you wanted to drop skinning, I'd advise you to do so. You might be getting some profit from skinning but dropping tailoring in favor of Enchanting would be a hasty choice. Consider if your goal is to earn income or to create items for you and your guild. Since tailoring is self supporting, as is enchanting, I would advise you to drop Skinning and take enchanting. The disenchants from your bank should get you to almost 40ish on the skill and after that you can treat new players by handing out the low level enchantment.

If you goal is strictly the amount of income your skills can produce. I would then advise you to go with a double gather choice. Either mining/skinning or Mining/Herbalism. Mining is just a money maker flat out. Its not even the fact that people don't want to mine their own ore, but that getting your skill up at higher levels is a pain the in butt. You may not make much until you hit Iron. But once you start to get iron ore you'll be in the money. I find that Iron ore sells for more than 1 gold for a stack on 20. I haven't reached a level yet where I'm selling any other bars. But I have to imagine that if Iron is selling that well the rest must sell even better.

You listed other as your last option. To that I'd like to say go with the other. Keep tailoring, but purchase your leathers. Go with Mining/Tailoring. Mining big bucks, tailor for bags. Even if you only sell one bag for 26 gold every 4 days, that's still 26 gold every 4 days. Better than nothing!

I am also a warlock who started down the same road as you... tailor and skinning... I went with Tailoring/herbalism, and I worked out a deal with a guildie who will disenchant all the unneeded tailoring junk. He supplies me with cloth and a small fee, and I give him stuff to disenchant, and since u are at lvl 290 in tailoring you can pretty much keep any disenchater happy.

Also it seems to me that there are too many Miners compared to herbalist who just sell stuff(but maybe thats just on my realm), and a minor plus for herbalism is that u don't have carry around a pick or knife. i know its only 1 slot, but that could be a stack of Liferoot or something. Hope my two cents adds to something

High level Tailoring and enchanting go hand in hand. By just disenchanting items you make you can level enchanting quite easily and sell the reagents for a fortune. The only person I know with his epic mount is a tailor/enchanter, he can make 40-50g a day just by making stuff, disenchanting it and selling shards/dusts. Easy money without even leaving the AH.
