Maybe I'm Just Bad At This ...Follow

Okay, I'm a lv. 280 Goblin Engineer and 260 Mining. Lately I've been neglecting my Engineering for the sole purpose of gaining money through Mining, but I just can't seem to do it. From lv. 42-45 (45 now) I've been doing nothing with my ores and bars but selling them (or making the odd Deadly Blunderbuss/Deadly Scope). I know Earthen Ring's Auction House prices fluctuate a lot more than other servers I've been on, but this is ridiculous. I make a lot of money one day, and lose my butt the next. I never can anticipate how to sell my bars.

Anyone have any advice for making money with mining? I'm not quite high enough level to get into the zones with Thorium yet ...

Here is some tips:

1) Only use the 8-hour time slot when selling. This will save you some silvers on the deposit.

2) Place them in the AH at the beginning or early stages of peak time, so probably like 5PM. That way they are there all night while most people play.

3) On my server things sell well in stacks of 5 instead of 20. Not sure if you are doing that already, but just how it is on mine.

4) I set my starting bid high, but my buyout a little lower that other people. That way, even if someone bids on it, I will still make decent money, and if they want to buyout, yours will look more appealing becuase of the slightly lower price.

5) If the AH is flooded with a certain type of ore, put your items in the bank and wait a few days. Seems the weekends always get flooded, then it cools off by tuesday and prices go up a little.

Hope this helps.

Send all the items to an alt that's always in Ironforge. Make a point of taking a break from playing with your main and logging on regularly with the alt to check how things are going in the AH. This will save you travel costs and time spent on journeys as well as free up your bag/bank slots for getting new items.

Don't feel forced to sell all the time, make a judgement call if it's worth listing the items or not. If there's few items on sale there's no need to undercut, while if there's a wide selection you may want to undercut slightly or at least match the lower price range to ensure a sale. If there's already a ton of stuff available and buyouts are low then just don't trade or trade in the Trade Channel instead. There's no cost for advertising in chat :-)
