frustrations with herbalism/alchemy at mid levelsFollow

I am a lvl 35 tauren shamen. I have had herbalism and alchemy since the beginning but am getting frustrated. I am around 200 now with herbalism but my alchemy is really lagging. I have a backpack full of exotic plants but don' seem to ever have what I neeed to make potions more advanced than apprentice level ones (which I get no xp for). Even those are hard as I now am adventuring in areas where there are no longer "beginning" herbs. I have sometimes used recipes where you start with low level potions (as with the healing potions), but again, getting the ingredients has been hard. Seems like many of the ingredients for high level potions are only available at the auction house. I'd like to start making some money with my profession, as I am pretty impovershed for my level (leveling up as a shamen is expensive and it would be fun to get a mount someday). But buying ingredients to make potions really cuts down on the profit margin.

I am even thinking of dumping these professons and starting afresh with mining/blacksmithing, since I will be able to use mail at level 40. But it will take a while to get those skills up to scratch too and a lot of poking around in newbie areas to find copper initially.

Anyone else had this problem?

Please dont go with smithing for the sake of Mail, by level 40 smiths Make plate, not mail, you would be even more dissapointed by that, some of the later LW plans are Mail(dragonscale). I dont know that you could have been more vague in you ingredents, what are you looking for, my guess is fadeleaf( it is what is stoping me now) that is in SV, you are high enuff level to get to the herbs, my Alt is not. The problem you experence is unique, it happens to most all professions, you have leveld you tradeskill to the limits of what you can gather at you level. This happens to All Professions, you may not see it again if you take up a new one as you will breeze though the low levels and then be just in line for you tradeskill vs level battle plan. As a note All Tradeskills that make something cost you money, and at the bottom end lots of it, Nobody wants you stuff with any of the trades untill later levels(well some folks but not enuff to make any moeny on it),that said every profesison has some money makers, but you have to toil though the other stuff first.
