Ive read many things about enchanting and all, but is there any help on disenchanting? I've been disenchanting every green item i find and i get about the same thing as when i make a green item (Brown Linen Robe)...either a strange dust or lesser essence of magic.

How do I know what to disenchant and what it will yield? I disenchanted a lvl 20 green item yesterday for a Small Glimmering Shard, but today I did a level 22 green item for another strange dust...

I looked at that already but the disenchant part is not too informative...

There's a semi-random aspect to it. While it's hard to work out specifics on drop items (as they really are uncommon) it's quite easy to map out the tradeskill items that people make and sell/give to you. I'm into double numbers disenchanted on many of the blacksmithing and tailoring items. Basically it seems that every item has a 'disenchant table' which you roll on to get a type and a quantity of loot. For example disenchanting two colorful kilts I first got some Strange Dust and then 2 Lesser Astral Essence. In other words, even with the *exact* same item being disenchanted there's an element of luck as to what and how much.

Bottom line just get a lot of cheap (<20s) items off the AH or get friendly with a tailor/blacksmith by giving him/her all your cloth + free enchants in return for free uncommons. It seems dust is the most common yield, then essences and most rarely shards. Remember you can convert lesser/greater essences with Use.

Thanks for the info. That was very helpful...I was going crazy not knowing why or how to get certain items from disenchants...

I have been disenchanting uncommon made items, however I have never gotten anything better than a greater essence...should the level of the uncommon item affect the yield? In other words, does a green item level 5 = green item level 30 as far as disenchanting goes? So far my char is lvl 22 so I have never gotten any green item > lvl 17 to disenchant.

Also should I ever try disenchanting blue items?

That is the only way to reliabley get Shards, meny other items have a chance of droping a shard, but a blue will always dorp one(of respective size to the level of the item) right arround level 22 greens, the next level of enchanting goods will start to be looted form disenchants. Lots of enchanters used to love the Green Lense that engeneers made as they didnt take a lot to make and they were blue, always resulting in a large radiant shard. Bliz has added a lot of ingredents(aquamarine and a extra 50% of the ingredents that were already in it). The job of a enhcanter is a thankless one till you get to about 180 then folks actualy want what you have to sell, it is just till then folks are chaneing equptement so often nobody can justify paying for the enchant .
hope it helps

For figuring what disenchants into what go to http://ui.worldofwar.net/ and download Enchantix.

This little mod works to log what you can disenchant and the % of getting shards, dust, etc from each item. Must have for enchanters as you can find Cheap stuff in AH that might give you good enchanting supplies. Also I've found some white items that I didn't know I could disenchant. (Mouse over everything you can disenchant some feathers.)

for whoever looks at this thread talking about glows:
there are no enchantments that just put the glows on weapons. The glows are byproducts of all weapon enchants, excluding the first two damage enchants (+2 to 2hers and +1 to weapon).
hope this helps to the guy who ask about glows

Downloaded the enchantix mod and finally figured out how to use it wth cosmos...

after putting in the add-ons, you have to shift and click on the item in a chat window. /p shift+item. Then all the disenchant information pops up.

Thanks alot for the mod ^_^
