Leatherworker/SkinningFollow

Hey guys, just started the game, and just wondering how profitable this combo is. I would think it would be pretty easy with all the carcasses just lying around. Any experienced players input would be appreciated. Thanks

Howdy! I really enjoy skinning and leaterworking. I'm lvl 37 rogue right now, and leatherworking just hit 210. I'm consistently skinning Heavy and Thick leather, which is a great bonus to grinding on 'skinable' beasts. I make my own armor, so I'm always up to date, and not to mention some of the more profitable armor that sells really well at auction. When my inventory is overrun with leather, I either sell the stacks or make Armor Kits, which have been selling for 70s each on Stormscale. My most profitable experience so for is making Nightscape tunics and headbands, they sell very well, tunics getting 2g each! And it only takes 7 thick leathers to make, so I can make several after a good leather run. When I first started it was easy to raise my leatherworking because of all of the "free" skins that I came across. Once you raise your skinning a little bit, you will come across dead beasts that others have been grinding on, and rack up on light leathers (or scraps, which you use to make light leather). All in all, I think it's one of the best combos...for rogues especially. We need good leather armor!

Well since all you wanna do is make money, I would go with skinning/herbalism. I use this combo on my Pally and I find myself looking for ways to spend it all..... but I cant. I am only lvl 19, but I have already trained every weapon I can, bought me the nicest (matching) armor with a nice shirt, and I have a shield, 2 1h weapons and 3 2h weapons. They are also all enchanted with beastslayer (for the glow effect). Right now I have 8g and there is nothing left to spend my money on. My main is a lvl 28 hunter and I do leatherworking/skinning and it also makes me good money but not as fast. I do save a lot though on armor, and the armor kits do sell very well. What I usually do is put things up in the AH in the morning before I go to work and most of the time, when I get home everything is usually bought up by all the people that stay home all day and don't make a penny IRL, but hey, they are rich in the game :). Hope this helps you out.

If you’re just interested in what skills are the best in relation to income earning potential. I would advise you to take up a career as a double gatherer. By having two gathering skills you'll earn a great deal of money in a short time.

Gathering does have one down fall; once you've reached a high enough level and you've decided to take up a craft. You'll have to purchase lower level crafting stuffs from new characters that took two gathering professions. Either that or grind for low level supplies in low level areas.

I hope this has helped.

My rogue has skinning and mining. Metal bars and gems sell fairly well. When I was farming for my mount, I made most of my money by selling mithril and truesilver bars. Mining is well suited for a rogue, as I can stealth past most of the mobs inside of caves and just kill the ones near the mineral nodes I need to mine.

For a mage, herbalism might work out better. But I would caution against taking both mining and herbalism. Both of these professions use the mini map for tracking resources. But you can only have one active at a time. Switching between the two gets to be a pain very quickly. So if you take two gathering professions I’d suggest taking skinning and either mining or herbalism.
