You buy the book in Booty Bay, from a fishing vendor on the bottom level, kind of by the tavern, but the lowest level. There was an excellent fishing post on this message board which was literally everything you ever wanted to know about fishing - do a search and you'll find it.

I've also seen the book for sale at the auction house for a few gold, you'll pay 1g for it in Booty Bay.

Can't say as far as horde side goes, but for alliance, once you hit level 40 and have 225 fishing, the fishing trainer in ironforge will give you a quest to be able to take your fishing skill to 300. You have to go talk to a guy outside theramore on one of the islands. He then sends you out to catch 4 different fish in various zones. Desolace, Stranglethorn Vale, Swamp of Sorrows, and Feralas if I remember correctly. Turn these back in outside Theramore and you should be able to take fishing to 300. Just a word of warning however, I did the quest and somehow my skill got bugged. Am still capped at 225. Sent a petition to gm and got the standard response of "we know there is an issue with this problem for some people, but at the current time there is nothing we can do about it" Thought I got away from that mentality when I finally got wise and left EQ.

it's pretty much the same for us horde, just Orgrimaar instead of ironforge. I believe the fifhing guy is in vally of honor, big pond like thing.

I never got a quest in ironforge i think u can just go straight to the guy near theramore but its hard to find him u will probaly want to look at a map somewhere.

is there anything good that comes out of fishing?

My pet likes fish and it's a relatively cheap way to keep it happy.

In response to Wakachiba, fishing is good for...

- Getting raw food for the party and pets
- Levelling up your cooking skill and getting cooked food (which is handy for pre-battle buffs and post-battle recovery)
- Getting Firefin and Blackmouth (important alchemy ingredients)
- Pulling up occassional items such as chests, potions, uncommon equipment etc
- Having something to do while waiting for a group/raid to form up
- Unwinding after a long gaming session, you can very easily fish while chatting as you get an audio queue for the interactive bit

I don't think fishing is for everybody, if you are looking at bottom line gold or XP generation per hour then forget about fishing. However it's an effective way of levelling up cooking, getting food and the occassional surprise item as well as a nice way of passing the time.

Any thing good about fishing? well as a hunter that not only feeds fish to their pet or sends reagents to a alchemest(or sell em if you dont have a buddie that dose alchemy), winter squid... they are use to make grilled squid, and they rock http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=13928
their are a few other good fish to cook and eat with non stam buffs, but thats just me ...I like fishing in real life.

Fishing is sometimes good for money too...

Most of the clam-type critters you fish out yield pearls of different varieties at a low rate. I was really lucky one session while fishing for Spotted Yellowtail in Tanaris and came up with three black pearls in about 35 minutes. They sold for 4g in about 30 seconds to a character who needed 2 of them to complete the "Big Black Mace" part of his weaponsmith quest.

i think your forgetting the best reason to fish. its deviate(sp?) fish. if you've ever eaten one you know it turns you into a pirate(at least every time i have thats what it did) which is really cool no matter which way you slice it. just thought id put in my two cents.
