Hi all. I have recently started mining and have a couple of related questions.
1. Are ore sites static - that is an ore WILL respawn at that same location (thus a good idea to mark them on my map) or are they "randomized" in some manner (making marking them on a map fairly useless)?
2. Is there a fixed respawn time for ore sites (perhaps by type) so that one can count on when they will respawn or again is this variable in some manner?

Yes the ore sites are static, marking them or having a UI that marks them for you is an absolute must for a gathering skill of any sort. As far as times go I haven't seen anything that indicates that there is a fixed time, but it seems to me that if that were the case, people would start camping veins. This would be unfair so my guess is that the times as well as which veins in the zone spawn, are totally random.

It also appears that a vein fills up 2 gathers at a time: sometimes you only get 2 collects before it disappears, sometimes 4. I've also seen where the minimap shows 2 veins where there's just 1, and after you clear it of 4, it reappears right away for 2 more.

the same ore deposit does not respawn in the same spot once you get to higher lvl area/ores. (copper veins in lowbie areas pretty much stay copper)

I have made over 2K gold from mining Thorium Veins and I don't use a UI or mark them on my map. I am just smart enuf to know where they are at and when they respawn
