ok guys im new to WOW and thus new to crafting items. I chose skinning/leathercraft as my first skills. My skinning is 50, so i can start to craft some leather equip. Ok my question is how do i craft an item eg. light leather.. if i had the 3x leather scraps.. what would i need to do to craft the item.

If you still have the default setting's press 'P'. And in there you should have something for Leatherworking. Click that and it brings up a recipe book. If you have learned skills from the Leatherworker teacher, there will be patterns there that you can make. Highlight a pattern and it will tell you what you need to make it. If you have all the ingredients already, it will say in () how many you can make of that item.

You get more patterns by skilling up at various NPC's.
