should there be price caps at the AHFollow

i have been playing for about three months now and i have a number of good and bad esperiences at the AH. A lot of my bad esxperiences have come from trade items being way overpriced. I think Blizzard should put price caps on trade items so bidding doesnt get out of hand. I realize that this can destroy the purpose of an auction but 50s for 20 copper bars is absurd. I have even seen it go for 75s. I also realize that you have no obligation to bid on anything. but for low level characcters just starting out; buying copper bars at the auction hous for cheap reasonable prices could help them out a great deal. I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about this idea.

Personally, I feel if the item gets rare enough, someone will be happy to pay that price instead of going out and getting it for themselves. What I mean by rare is more like, only a few stacks posted, not that the item itself is rare. A newbie who wants to save money can easily go out and get their own, or make friends who will trade them for things that they ARE able to get on their own. It also seems very easy for a newbie to join a guild and get more help that way.

I think it just comes down to if someone thinks that can make that much, they'll try, and they have that right. If no one bids, maybe next time they'll lower their price.

I agree...if you dont want to pay the price at the AH then dont!
There are other ways to get items that you need.

1. Get them youself
2. Trade with guild & friends
3. Go out and kill things..to get money to pay for the stuff "you must have" at the AH. (a side effect of this technique is that you might actually have some fun doing it and get something else you need if the loot demon is on your side).

All of the above techniques are vastly more entertaining than browsing & bidding at the AH.

There is rapid inflation in the market. We have not seen it stabilize yet. We are used to prices from a month ago, and in that month, how much more cash do you think is in the economy? In clinical terms, "a whole bunch". As long as people pay the higher prices, they will be put up at higher prices. You base your price on what the market will bear.

Although. starting out isn't supposed to be easy. 50s for 20 copper bars really isn't absurd, considering how little 50s is.

If you aren't willing to be a dedicated miner and go out and find your own metal, then you need to be prepared to pay for the convenience of someone else going to get it for you. Maybe that person thinks he could have made 45s if he hunted instead of mining. He therefore puts the copper up for 50s in the hopes of getting a little profit.

There is no inherent cost for anything, nor is there inherent value. The value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it. If 20 copper bars are selling at 50s, then the value of 20 copper bars is 50s.

if you fit this category,

a) go get your own copper
b) don't use your small amount of funds on buying resources at the AH

the people who buy resources at the AH generally have some money to spare where they don't see 75s as a huge dent in their wallet.

i remember when 6s for a 6-slot bag at the NPC store was a lot when i first reached goldshire at lvl 5 or so (yea i know, this was before I learned where the AH was)...the other day, at level 16, i decided to go upgrade some bags, and 10-slot bags were 45-50s. i thought to myself, "is that all!???!" and promptly bought 4 of them without even blinking an eye.

it's fun to craft, it definitely can help in the long run, but when you're short on money, don't ask for others to change the game or their prices to match your funds.

The value of something is the price people are willing to pay for it. Arbitrarily fixing prices to what someone of level X can pay would ruin the economy ... just look at communism.

I just sold some decent boots last night, I shouted the boots i had to sell and asked them to send me offers, first person offered 45g.. I was shocked i thought maybe if i was lucky i would get 5-10g. The third person that msg'd me offered 10g, so i wasnt too far off, but yah. I ended up selling to the 2nd person who 1-upped the first bidder, so i got 46g on these boots. They are in no way worth that much, but hey. If someone is willing to pay it, why not :S

Items cost what people are willing to pay.

Just a tip...

I've had more success with money in this game by just doing the mining myself...I've gotten to be a pretty good blacksmith (260) and can just now realize profits. If I had to do it all over again, I would have mined all my own ores and sold all my weapon and armor I made to the vendor.

After you pay the auction house fee a couple of times trying to sell something, you pretty much lose the money you get from selling it...it sometimes comes out to a pretty bad wash.

If you want to have tons of money, stay away from the AH.

I know this isn't directly related to your original question, but in the way it is. If you're buying copper bars already from the AH, expect to lose a ton of money crafting.
