Hiya! I'm an European newb with two question.

1) SKinning: In the beginning I found light leather regualy, later on it became rare on the same mob. (I'm finding a lot ruined leather.) I'm skin lvl 85 Is this just bad luck or am I doing something wrong?

2) Where can I get leatherworking recipes? The first trainer I encountered (on the road to Darnassus) told me I got to skill up to lvl 15 for the lowest recipe. >.<

Hi - I found that the leather drops depend on your lvl and level of mob than yur skill.
Patterns you buy from trainer /or get a drop- not common - from a mob/ or might find at some general vendors or tradesman - /or go to auction house and look.
You wont be able use the pattern untill your levl is high enough.
Use the ruined leather to make licht leather - in the beginning that even raises your skill.
Have fun

I recently started a character with Skinning as a profession too. At first, almost everything was leather scraps. Use the Trade Goods option for Light Leather to convert it. This is kind of like sewing a bunch of little pieces together to make one normal piece of "Light Leather". When you do your skinning, look at the word "Skinnable" when you highlight the animal. It seems like when it's orange or yellow you get leather more often. As it gets to be white or gray (Lower level critter) you seem to get more scraps, Higher level animals skin for more and higher grade leather or hide.

Rob,

I've found that the color of the 'skinnable' tag indicates your likelihood to increase your skill when you skin the beast and has no bearing on what you get from it. The reason that your getting better skins from those creatures is because you're edging into a higher level of creature.

When I skin lvl 27 whelps, which are grey to me, I still get medium and heavy leathers and hides because that's what they drop. I don't have any chance to skill up on them because they are too low a level for me.

To the OP, the reason you seem to be getting scraps now instead of light leather is just a fluke. Skinnables at low levels have a chance to drop different quality of skins.

If you're only interested in light leather, then the best place I've found (alliance) is in Loch Modan the southern most island in the lake is filled with crocodiles. The respawn rate is pretty good for 1 person farming.
