Question for WeaponsmithsFollow

#1 Feb 04 2005 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
I completed the weaponsmith quest (bring 4 moonsteel broadswords, etc.) and now can't buy the plans for a weaponsmith. My skill level is high enough (235) so that I should be able to buy the first plan, but it says that I need to be an Artisan weaponsmith.

Is there another quest or something I need to do? Am I bugged? Help?

At around skill level 225, you have to choose whether you want to be a weapon or armor smith (235 is the cap until you choose). Once you choose and train with a trainer that can train artisan (I think the one in Iron Forge by the forge can train you) you'll be able to learn higher level items for your chosen path only. You can still learn/make items requiring 225 or below. One important note about selecting a smithing focus/path. If you go Armor, you can make any armor but with weapons you have to choose a specific weapon type to make like 1hand sword or 1hand axe or 2hand swords etc. Weapon smithing is a much narrower focus so choose carefully.

Thanks for the reply, but I already trained in the artisan weaponsmith. My problem is that the trainer (the one in IF and the one in SW) won't trian me to make the weaponsmith weapons. I'm level 41 NE Warrior, my smithing skill is at 235, the minimum skill required to train for whatever mace he's got (can't remember the name off hand).

I think he should train me, but for some reason he's not.

Not totally sure on this but I was told you could choose a weapon path at 50, but you should be able to skill up past 235 with other avenues other then your desired path. once you hit 50 you can then pick a weapon path and proceed.

NOTE that weapon path is not the same as weaponsmith/armorsmith. That you can do at 40, but to pick axe, sword or mace you need to be 50 and skill of 235.

I was told the other night that there is indeed a quest related to smithing that has to be done to go Weapons or Armor beyond where you are now. Supposedly, you have to speak to the base trainer in IF who will then tell you to speak with one of the two guys at the large anvil (advanced trainers) based on the training selection you made in dialog with him. When you speak to the specific advanced trainer by the anvil, he is supposed to give a quest to make stuff for him. Once the quest items are made and returned to him, he will train you in the art of your chosen path. Hope this makes sense. Hope this is correct. I am not lvl 40 (another requirement) so the advanced trainers won't train me yet so i couldn't test the info out myself. If this is incorrect, i apologize in advance.

It is later on in Weapon Smithing that you have to pick a focus of weapon type.

Well I doubt this has anything to do with it.. but I'm lvl 41 warrior and my smithing is 268.. I just got weaponsmithing last night but before i did it i did all of the mithril order quests.. maybe if you are absolutely sure that you are 235 smithing + weaponsmithing quest completed.. try doing all of the mithril order quests.. i was able to train all of the weaponsmithing plans right away when i got weaponsmithing.. so other than that.. i cant see any difference..

You get the new weaponsmith plans in Stormwind, Dwarven district. I believe the shop is on the north end of town, but not 100% sure.
