Tribal & Scorpid LW FrustrationsFollow

Ok, level 39, just about to hit 40. My plan is that since i'm a hunter, i want a complete set of tough scorpid gear for level 40-50. On top of this, i want to do Tribal Leatherworking so that i can make tons of great gear for my alt which is a druid. I am currently 220 LW, just about to go train to be a master and i have done a great job at getting all the patterns that i can make. Leathercrafting is a great profession, you just need to learn how to make the best of it and optimize what you're going to do with it.

Now my problems are in farming 3 different things (i'm alliance): Scorpid Scale, Turtle Scale, Wildvine. And heres why:

Scorpid Scale- I have yet to find this and thotbot says they are skinned off the scorpids in Tanaris - Can anyone confirm this as well as, the level of scorpids you have to kill to get them, where to go in Tanaris (preferably safe for a level 40 Hunter), and what the name and drop rate was?

Turtle Scale - I went to Theramore and rightoutside in one of the huge rivers, i found turtles, which i started killing and skinning, but after 2 hours no scales. I'm thinking about going to the hinterlands, but stuff there is level 43 plus. Where is the best zone or area to farm these as well as, a general idea of where you farmed them? What was the drop rate?

Wildvine - I'm currently questing in STV and i wen to the skullsplitter camps and farmed just about all night last night. I helped various parties get their tusks and fetishes here and i'd say i killed about 200+ of the lower tier and some of the mid-tier trolls.....Two wildvines so far ><. Which level range or tier of trolls most commonly drops them? Is there a specific area i must go? As far as i know, there are about 3 ruins that these guys hang around. The first 2 ruins are the lower tier trolls and then if you go way back into the mountains to the south of there, you find a huge set of city ruins full of the higher tier trolls.

Now, i'm in no way complaining about the farming part of this, because the money from the other drops and the fact that i'm getting exp for killing this stuff is great. But i'd like to maximize my time the best i can to obtain the crafting ingredients that i need to move forward on these quests, so any information that the great Tribalcrafters of Alla could spare would be greatly appreciated.^^

The trolls in The Hinterlands seem to drop wildvine much more than the ones in STV.

As for the scorpid scales, I don't remember exactly what level you have to be to kill the scorpids in Tanaris, but I was able to do so at level 39. However, there's a lot of aggro mobs around and you have to be very careful.

As for the turtle scales, if you go to Theramore, leave from the front gate, and immediately head north. There will be a shoreline with a lot of turtles, they drop turtle scales. THe higher level the turtle, the more likely you get turtle scales. The turtles in the hinterlands are level 50, you won't be able to kill them at levle 40.

For wildvine, the higher level the troll, the more likely they'll drop wildvine. It's not exactly a common drop and thus why they sell for 1.5g+ in Ironforge.

Scorpiods in Tanaris start at 40 or so with low drop rates. They go up to 47 or so. You can start farming them, but watch out if you're on a PvP server, Tanaris is a gankathon.

Turtles do spawn in Duskwallow at low 40s, but the spawn rate is horrible and drop rate is low. Really your best bet is the 48-50 turtles in Tanaris. Good spawn rate, good drop rate. Hard farming pre-46 though.

The best place for Scorpid Scales that I found is in Tanaris. However, it's easier if you are 45+. Scorpid Dunestalkers (46-47) have a decent drop rate and will drop two at a time in many cases.

Like was said earlier, the Surf Gliders on the SE coast of Tanaris are great for turtle scales. Once again these will drop 2 at a time in many cases, but the mobs are 48-50.

The scorpids in Uldaman have a pretty high drop rate on scorpid scales. There are a few elites, but even the regular scorpids there will yield them.

The fastest way to get to them is through the back door.. the cave on the east side of the Badlands.

Team up with an enchanter who needs to get new plans from there since they'll need to kill the scorpids anyhow to get the lady to come out. At 40 you'll probably need more than just 2 people in your party though.

D'oh!

Looks like alot of this is gonna be one of those, "Ya gotta wait til you're level 50 to do it" type things. Oh well. Looks like i'm gonna be waiting another 10 levels to get my tribal thing goin.

Thanks for all the input though. Very appreciated. ^^

Ok, first off, Wildvine- are a PAIN to get before you can kill those trolls. The scorpid scales are not that rare to be honest. The scorpid hunters are from 40-42ish. You're a 40 hunter(?) it's not that hard to kill em. That's how i got my scales for my scorpid armor. Then once you get a couple levels, you can move to the Scorpid Lashers which are around lvl 44. But look at it like this. You are A. Getting exp for killing B. Getting leathers for skill and C. you will get the scorpid scales, just be patient.

The turtles are a lil different. I've hunted the ones right off theramore to the north, and i'll go in stints where i'll get a lot at times, but then i won't get too many. Try makin friends with someone lvl 50+ and shzmoooze the into going and gettin some from the higher level turtles. Just be patient.

Once you get Tribal it won't be any easier- you have to get Wicked Claws, which i've gotten 1 to drop since i've been lookin for em in tenaris. That's to make the wolfshead helm. Have fun with that! ;-)

I just found out today that the scorpod scales are a fairly common loot from the lower level scorpids(in tanaris) and thats very cool. I was all sortsa pissed that i'd have to wait many levels on getting them.

As far as the wildvine goes, drop rates increase with level, and instead of getting angry about not being able to get tribal right at 40, i'm pretty cool with it. its gonna be another 20 levels with my hunter, and then another 25 with my druid before i'm even ready to utilize my tribal LW skill.

get tribal right at 40

Is it possible to get tribal at 40? I'm 41, and 250 leatherworking, and still can't get the quest for Tribal Leatherworking. What exactly are all the prerequisites to get the quest?

The best place for finding Wildvine (for me) was to harvest Purple Lotus in STV - I would get Wildvine like Swiftthistle with my lotus. If you know an herbalist, ask them to keep an eye out for ya.

You must be level 42 and completed the wildvine quests in feralas to begin the Tribal leathercrafting quests.

My druid happens to be a flower picking alchemist. ^^

Hmmmmmm...might it be that you either hafta have a a herbalist in your guild or have an alt characterthat does it? I wonder if thats by design?

I've been killing those darn turtles near Theramore for 2 days now. 12 turtle scale drops so far, and it takes over 100 for the 4 pieces of armour. What a fantastic waste of a day.

I have been buying turtle scales when I can, and also hunting for them, so that by time I am level 45, I should have what I need.

I have my leatherworking at 251, and skinning is in the 270's, so I am ready to do tribal working when I hit 42, but as I mentioned above, I think it will be a while.

As far as the scorpid stuff goes, I just have higher level guild mates farm em for me, and then I make other things for thier lower level alts in exchange.

Thanks for this information. I just have about half a level to go, and one more quest in Feralas. That is the turtlescale quest. I might just go and buy the things I need for it at the AH, since turtle scales seem to be so hard to find at this level.

I've made a few of the wild leather shoulders and helms in my day. I bought most of the wildvines on the AH, and even found one very generous fella who sent me 5 via a COD mail for only 1.25g! I've also found a few on trolls in The Hinterlands, as well as Flasks of Mojo, which I use to make Big Voodoo stuff.

I came too close to selling all my mojo and did'nt realize what they were for. Yeah, trolls seem to be a key component to all this: mojo & wildvine. Is cool though. I can't wait til i start leveling my druid as my main and take advantage of all this labor i'm putting into this craft though. ^^
