How Do I Get Rugged Leather?Follow

#1 Jan 19 2005 at 4:49 AM Rating: Decent
I can't find any training that will turn thick leather into rugged leather, and the mobs around my level(43) only seem to skin heavy/thick leather. Is there any way to get rugged leather?

lakersout,

I've skinned Rugged leather off of a few mobs my level at 45. I couldn't say for certain, but I'm fairly confident that the type of leather you get when skinning is dependant of creature in which you've skinned.

When I've run around for fun helping friend(s) of considerably lower level. I've never recieved a leather better than when I was that level and skinning the same creatures.

Also when I need X leather for a recipy I've then started to "tag," certain location for what type of leather they offer when an animal is skinned. I.E. heavy leathers are dropped in Strangle horn Vale by raptors level 42 ish and tigers. But if I wanted say thick hides I'd have to make sure my prey was no lower than level 44 Lashtail raptors and such SHV.

If you like try this experiment on your own, hack and slash a sheep and skin it. You'll find that your results are no better now than when you tried the same (and I know you did! I sure did.) when you first saw one.

RUgged gets common (about 1/3 of all drops) at around 50. On 50-52 hippos I get rugged 1/3 of the tiem and thick 2/3, with an occasional hide (thick or rugged). You really don't need rugged until you're looking for 270+ skill gains, you can get to at least 265 on nightscape gear.

What they said basically :D, also rugged is the only leather that can't be combined from the previous reagant (thick).

The panthers and apes off the island just east of booty bay ( level 50+ ) will skin rugged, as will Tethris ( 43+ elite raptor ) in stranglethorn .. i just managed to get my first few rugged leather last night in these areas

now to find a trainer that'll teach me rugged leather armor kits, heh ;)

off topic : turtle scale bracers .. anyone know where the pattern drops from?

Your looking for the master trainer - He's located in Aerie peak (North of Hillsbrad, 40+ zone) He can train the patterns for rugged kits & Turtle scale bracers.

EDIT: I should mention this is the alliance trainer, not sure where the horde on is.

hehe, i feel like a complete idiot .. i've spent the last week or two camping the AH looking for the Turtle Scale Bracers pattern or for just some bracers for sale. Finally gave up on that, decided to poke around my recipe list to see what i could make for decent skillups .. i guess somwhere along the line i had already learned the patterns for Turtle Scale Bracers :p .. most likely from this same trainer you're directing me to :D

thanks much!

Actually, the very first rugged leathers I've come across were from the basilisks in Zul'Farrak. If you see them, ask your group members if they could take the time to kill them/.

when I first started farming rugged it was the wolves (45+) in Aerie, bears/wolves in Hinterlands, basilisks in Tanaris, and raptors/gorillas in crater are my spots when I want to farm alot quickly.
