Gnomish vs. Goblin Engineering SpecializationFollow

#1 Jan 07 2005 at 12:32 PM Rating: Good
I am a Dwarven Hunter Engineer, and am trying to decide which specialization path to follow. What type of items can each specialization make? I think I am most interested in making better guns, but am not sure if that's Gnomish which is descibed as "making wonderful devices" or Goblin which is described as "blowing things up". I would think it's Goblin, but don't want to make the wrong choice. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Goblins - bombs

Gnomish - all the cool stuff that says "it might not work sometimes"

I am a Dwarven Hunter trying to make this same decision. Currently I think I am leaning toward Goblin, because I like the idea of being able to use a Bomb Dispenser and reloading my mortars. But Gnomish get the Death Ray, which seems like it would be a fun toy! They also get a Battle Chicken.

I don't mind purchasing/trading to engineers of the other school to obtain all the gadgets I want, what I am worried about is the bind on pickup specialties for each type of engineering.

Any input is appreciated!

I chose Gnomish, and I really wish I would have went the other direction. Being able to reload Mortars and Use Bomb Dispenser I believe is more important than the battle chicken and the deathray. Battle Chicken is obsolete by level 50, and the death ray does so much damage to you to use, that Im not sure its really worth it in most cases.

The things I have found to be the most useful..

1. Goblin Rocket Helmet (Helps with Crowd Control in instances) and since Im a Shaman, I normally can't help in that dept. It has a 20 min cool down, but in instances, that can sometimes get you to the next big 4 mob pull challenge.

2. Gnomish Shrink Ray Ok, this isn't REAL useful, but it definatly has some funny affects, and 2 out of 3 times, you get favorable affects from it. Either increasing your partys size and attack power, or shrinking the enemy. I don't use it when I feel we are on the edge of survival, but when I know we will win regardless, its always a fun item to use.

3. Gnomish Mind Control Helm. This works ok sometimes, its more of a pvp item then anything else. If I am going to attack a group of 2 or 3, I will throw this on and attempt to Mind Control the rogue or pally or warrior. And immediatly sick em on their friends. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't, but when it does, its pretty funny watching the enemy freak out.

4. Gnomish Harm Prevention Belt. I will put this on sometimes in pvp.. It has saved me numerous times, because either it saves me from 800 pts of damage, or I get banished for 10-30 secs.. which many times the enemy moves along to fight someone else by then.

All of these useful things can be used by both, just takes finding a gnomish eng to make some of them. I would suggest that you go Goblin, and trade some of your items that would be useful to the gnomish engy, for some of the items that would help you out.

In the end.. Bombs > cool devices with long cool downs. Battle chicken is ok, I use it more when I am mining and I get something interupting me.. I pop the chicken and finish mining before I start fighting. Keeps some of the guys who like to let others aggro the mobs guarding the vein and slip in behind it away from ya

Thanks for sharing your experience with Engineering. Rate up!

would you rather specialise in engineering that was developed by MANY tests and things blowing up in the inventors face, therefore ensuring that they have been tweaked to perfection (goblins) or do you want to specialise in engineering developed by little people with silly haircuts?

I plan on going Goblin, but do remember that you can still use the Gnomish devices if you so choose.

And I've chosen Goblin for one reason: The Big One (here)

I am Goblin engineer(288/300)and I love it. I got bomb dispenser and goblin mortar and all the other cool stuff.
Im on server thunderhorn if you want to trade. I reloaded my mortar about 5 times now. But yesturday I was in Iron Forge at the forge(Tons of ppl were around)and It failed and a big huge fire ball went up around me and I flew straight up in the air almost hit the roof and flew into the forge died. It was funny when everyone stop and turned to look.

As a Gnome Warrior / Eng. I went Gnomish Engineering. Still early in the game and I may regret my choice, but as for why:

I make piles of bombs to skill up and end up vendoring them. Rarely do I use my bombs. And when I do, it is for kicks.

My hope is that there will be some useful high end stuff that is not currently listed, or some stuff will be patched in.

Really, 400-500 damage off a bomb is a melee round for high end encounters. Most usefull things I have found so far are: Ammo and Scopes.

Guns good to make, but most players have loot guns that are as good as if not better than what they could afford to buy crafted.

What I would like to see:

Augments, like +ac leather armor patches for Eng. Something that allows us to patch in effects on item slots. And something with group effects.
