I'm updating this post as people post on it. Easily accessed information regarding the Dragonscale, Elemental & Tribal will be provided below. After each section of questions for the individual specializations a quest link and a few recipe links are provided. (Hamboneosu)

It is important to note, that information regarding Wild leather is Posted within the replies to the thread, but Wild Leathers are not a specialization. It is just another progression for the craft of leatherworking. After completing that string of quests, your are able to choose to proceed into one of the three paths described in the title. Once youve chosen one of these specializations you can never take another path.

Another side note: Leather crafters will need a "Salt Shaker" in order to create Cured Rugged hide. Make sure to have an engineer craft one for you just as soon as they have a chance to do so. This item has a 3 day cool down, the hide is needed in the 290+ item creation and not in just a single piece either.

How do you get Scorpid, Turtle and Whelp scales?
Dragon scales (very rare), turtle scales, and scorpid scales are all aquired through skinning. Only certain turtles, dragons, and scorpids will produce a scale. See Thottbot for details www.thottbot.com. All scales are rare.

Black Dragonscales
Blue Dragonscales

Red Dragonscales
Worn Dragonscales

Within each link you'll find the level and drop locations of the specifc dragonscale you're looking for.

-Dragonscale
Mail leatherworking with various buffs, (mostly stam, int, sprt) resistances, (mostly fire) and specials (like +50 attack power).
around 9 recipes or so. Best for those that do a lot of melee. (Warriors, paladins, hunters)
*Edit by Tycon* I tried following the link, no prob. Tried to follow the directions and Literally spent the next 8 hrs, that's right folks I spent 8 whole hours, searching the mountain. After searching the entire thing up and down, I decided to take a break from Beldinn. Konchu would later tell me where I could find this illusive NPC.

Answer Provided By Konchu
-Dragonscale
Follow the road into Azshara. Continue until reaching an old abandoned Oricish outpost. From here continue east following the mountain. As the mountain turns south stop following it. At this point you should see a Tent off in the distant east. Go to that tent and you'll find peter waiting to help you.

I have found the dragonscale leatherworker trainer. He is in camp bosh along the southern mountain in the 'badlands'. He would give me the quest at lvl 42.

Answers Provided by Tycon
Where in the Badlands would you get the dragon scales?
Near the Northeast corner of the map, just grind blackdragon whelps until you collect enough scales.

Answer Provided By Anarquin
-Tribal
Leatherworking with various buffs, (mostly int and sprt) and some specials. Not many recipes that I can find. Best for spellcasters (druids, shaman?)

Comment by Anarquin:
There you have the break down. All three should be available by lvl 42. Dragonscale seems to be the easiest to complete - get the scorpid recipes at the AH and get scorpid scales in tanaris, dragon scales in badlands. Elemental seems to be the hardest because some of the materials needed are only dropped from pretty high lvl elementals (found in searing gorge and tanaris). I don't know about Tribal.

Comment by Lord GaresXenic
Tribal Leatherworking NPC is located in Thalanaar, on the borders of Feralas and Thousand Needles. To receive the quest, you need to be level 42, and have done the Wild Leather quest series out of Feathermoon in Feralas (Located on the northern island in the western sea).

Comment by PentupAnger:
Is Tribal Leathercraft good for Rogues? No *explained below.

Here is what I did... I got done with my Wild Leather quests and was thinking that Tribal Leather would be great for me, so I went and started and finished the Tribal Leatherworking quest... to my surprise (not really) the two patterns the lady gave me wont help me in any way.... me being a Rogue... I should have went for Elemental Leatherworking...

Comments by Javariel
Tribal actually has 2 amazing rogue/hunter recipies- devilsaur gauntlets and legs. +10ish stam each, +28 and +48 attack respectively, +1% crit each, with a set bonus of 2% to hit.

Answer Provided by MBecker -Horde Info:
To train EXPERT Leatherworking, you need to talk to Una in Thunderbluff for Horde.

QUESTION: :
Where can a Horde member find the Artisan Leathercrafter?

Answer Provided by MBecker -Horde Info:
To train ARTISAN Leatherworking you need to talk to Hahrana Ironhide in Camp Mojache for Horde.

QUESTION: :
Where can an Alliance member find the Master Leathercrafter?

Answer Provided by Runyon -Alliance info:
Alliance Master Leathercrafter can be found:
You can make it to Aerie Peak from the path behind Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad. Just follow the path behind the Keep and it will join up with a larger path and you'll soon be in Aerie Peak. Make sure you talk to the griffon master there...hehe.

QUESTION: :
Where is arie peak?

Answer Provided by Dorian -Alliance info:
From southshore you can see the path through the mountains behind Durnhold keep. There are two named griffons sitting there are the entrance of the path, it is really hard to miss.

Answer Provided by Tycon -Alliance info:
He's in the Hitherlands, it is located NE of Southshore but South of Aire peak, no roads lead to it, but if you follow the wall between Hillbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands north then into the mountains, you'll run across the hiltherlands, and Wildhammer Keep. Inside the keep look for Drakk Stonehand. He's the MASTER leathercrafter, he will allow you to take your skill from 225-300.

i dont know but its startin to **** me off. Here is what i have found on the horde side: At lvl 42 i have maxed leather at 250. I am a rogue, but quess what? all i find for the mid 200 lvls is MAIL stuff!? I have found the dragonscale leatherworker trainer. He is in camp bosh along the souther mnt. in the 'badlands'. He would give me the quest at lvl 42, but i did not bother starting it because it lets you make mail, again, useless for my class. The elemental leather worker for the horde, or atleast one that i have seen, is a Tauren sittin cross legged in about the middle of the map in Arathi highlands. i would be more specific but as of yet, i could not get the quest yet. I havent been there since hitting lvl 40 though, so there is a good chance since i can learn dragonscale i can learn that too..
Tribal leatherworking, which is focused on agil and stam (supposedly) is what i have been trying to get and so far the trainer will not saying anything, nor even have a silver ! over his head. (just for your info he is located south of Grom in a little hut in stranglethorn. I heard rumors recently you had to complete the wild leatherworking quests, and by taking certain wild leather items to the tribal person, that THEN unlocks tribal leather. I really have no frame of refference and read that on some random post that i have long forgot where it was. Anyway, that is what i have gathered SO far. i am most curious just to know Which is which! i know dragonscale is for mail stuff, but is elemental or tribal best for rogues, as in agil and stam? If you know for sure, or are on of the rare people who actually has figured it out, please post and let us know.

My understanding is that...

-Dragonscale
Mail leatherworking with various buffs, (mostly stam, int, sprt) resistances, (mostly fire) and specials (like +50 attack power).
around 9 recipes or so. Best for those that do a lot of melee. (Warriors, paladins, hunters)
Alliance quest http://thottbot.com/?q=3502
Horde quest http://thottbot.com/?q=2609

-Elemental

Alliance quest http://thottbot.com/?q=1459
Horde quest http://thottbot.com/?q=2354

-Tribal

my 2 cents
As a hunter I originally thought of dragonscale because at lvl 40 I can wear mail, but it occured to me that my pet does all my melee while I stay ranged. I need criticals and attack power the most - which comes from agility so elemental looks pretty good. most of the scorpid mail armor has agility buffs too.

hope this helps

Oh, for you lucky Horde guys, the faerie darters (name might be a little wrong) near the Camp Mojave in Feralis can drop the worn dragonscales for the Dragon Leatherworking quest. Unfortunately if you are alliance, you cant attack them. Im not sure why though. Anyway this is first hand info. I was there hunting wolves and bears when an orc was killing all the darters. I managed to get one scale from a darter that I can skinned. Only 9 more to go.....

Ok maybe I’m miss reading the elemental stuff on tbot. But the elemental leatherworker is in Searing George? Why is it the other special trainers are generally accessible to everyone but this one is locked be hind a zone door (alliance)? If I read the key quest correctly I can’t even get into the zone till 44 when I can get the quest.

Its kind of a let down to get to 42 and my leatherworking up to 240 just to have to wait till I get 44 and do a key quest.

this is just a comment to ANarquin. THANK YOU! the links are very helpfull, and i think you very much for taking the time to list a well made set of the various things. I had not checked back on this for awhile, and had since found out wat was what, but i thank you for takin the time to make that list. Even with having found the guy for elemental, i was still not exactly sure what the other things where for. anyway. just saying good job.

I was told that the requirement on tribal leatherworking was lower than that of elemental.
#12 Jan 05 2005 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
The elemental leatherworking quest (Alliance version) is in Searing Gorge but note that you don't have to use the doors near Loch Modan to access the zone, you can enter Saering Gorge from Badlands via a narrowish passage on the west zone wall of Badlands.

There is also another entrance to the zone through Blackrock Mountain (but its unlikely you would be using it to get to the leatherworking NPC).

I have to say I used to LOVE leatherworks. Then I picked Dragonscale since I can make mail...and my skill is 281. Guess what I hate it now. There are no more reciepes but couple and they stink.

Low/Med range skills were awesome. Something needs to be done about the higher levels...they need to add more. 280-300+ common Blizzard...

Great guide. Only one problem IMO:

Quote:

Maybe split these two classes up? As a rogue, I do my damage in melee, not ranged. Being grouped with Hunter (a ranged specialist) is misleading on more than one level IMO.

Maybe I'm missing something... I can't seem to find it, but not in best mood either right now at this game. (Extremely pissed. The game traded the Breastplate I was WEARING instead of both breastplates in my INVENTORY, so now I'm out of the +40 kit I had on it. ARG.)

But where do you obtain the other dragonscale receipes?

I've heard of this behavior too. In short, never have an item equipped if you're trading the same item in for a quest; it will START with the one on you and then draw from your inventory. You can lose some great enchantments that way.

element is based on agility so its great for rogues. btw i think u have to do the wild leather quest before traning in tribal. It has been said u need level 42 for element and 48 for dragon scale i dont know about tribal.

New answers for Dragonscale.

Greetings Leather crafting brothers & sisters.

Here is my first hand knowledge of the craft.

I finished my Dragonscale Leatherworking quest. I finished at level 44. (Dwarf hunter)

Requirements to make and wear dragonscale gloves:
Skill requirement: 235.
Level requirement to wear : 52.

Requirements to make dragonscale chestmail:
Skill requirement: 255
Level requirement to wear: 52

I've seen some drop recipies out there for our craft and I have to say wow! End game is looking pretty cool!

I believe your numbers are off on the basic dragonscale equipment.

I know for a fact the Dragonscale Breastplate can be worn at 46. I made mine ASAP after I finished the quest and started wearing it.

IIRC the gauntlets are level 42 or maybe even 40. Will have to go in game to check that out.

The Black Dragonscale breasplate is level 52 if thats what you are thinking of, but thats a pattern sold in BRD. You dont get that from the quest giver.

Would be really helpful for people to start to compile a list of what specialty gives access to what patters...both trained and dropped.

Links are always nice, but even just the full and accurate name of the item helps.

Thanks!

Im in leatherworking and just finished the wild quests. I just wanted to make sure on the choosing of Dragonscale, Elemental, or Tribal. Can you only choose one of the three types and thats what your stuck with or can you make all three types if you do the quests?
#26 Jan 20 2005 at 11:23 PM Rating: Good
Ok, I am guessing once I pick a leatherworking subclass to start I can not 'unlearn' it and do any other class.

I know there are other Tribal patterns, but from what I see Elemental leather would be better for me being a rogue.

Is there any way to unlearn tribal leatherworking?

If not, in theory could I unlearn leatherworking and start from scratch in order to get Elemental? (last ditch effort... one of my guildies better go into elemental)
