I was wondering...Thinking about giving up on fishing after last update. The fish don't sell for crap anymore and there are no more "+" items being fished up. So i say unless you need fish for cooking or some other Trade I would not worry about fishing. I really enjoyed fishing before they changed it. I am guessing it is cause of the botters, like in all the other games they ruin it for everyone else!!! Damn the botters to hell!!!!

I fish for 2 reasons. 1) It is about the easiest way to get cooking skill up to a respectable level. 2) I play a hunter and bears LOVE to eat fish. At the higher end you go thru alot of food on your pet and if you had to vendor buy all that food it would keep you more broke than you normally are. So fishing it seems is not for everyone anymore. But it is not totally worthless. Maybe some day they will make the system unbottable and we can go back to fishing for neat paterns and goodies.
P.S. does having your 5 year old kid count as using a bot? If so I am guilty but she thinks fishing is SOOOO darn much fun she practically begs me hehe.

Yeh anyway if fish start to sell for more again you will have a start on everyone else won't you just drop it for now and pick it up later.

lol same with my 10 year old sister SHE BEGS me i say u can only fish when its dark or some stuff to get her to leave me alone!

You need certain fish for some Alchemy potions. The oily blackmouth are used in the water breathing potions and maybe some others. I'm having a problem finding the book I need to get the skill up over 150. I'll keep fishing to augment friends' & familys' tradeskill needs, but I too would like the return of 'items' being fished up. It makes fishing more fun & interesting.

If your looking for the expert fishing book, you can buy one either from the trade auction or the vendor in Booty Bay...

the book is 1g in booty bay and you don't have to give up fishing skill (unlearn)... you can have as many secondary skills as you want... you can always sell your pole if you need the space in your inventory and keep your skill level ;)

I'm with Leaupine; as a Hunter my kitty looooves fish. How far you take the skill really depends on *why* you are fishing - after the Journeyman level you are mostly supporting your pet or a primary trade that needs fish.
Well that and sometimes it's fun to just commune with the fishes.

I like fishing.
though rarly you can fish up good items and other silly stuff. (i belive i got a 23 pound fish once)
cooking can make the fish actually worth a bit.

never im 225 skill lvl 27 mage looking forward to getting lvl 40 so i can hit 300 fishing!!! ive been fishing since my years of UO 6 years of fishing i guess it sticks with you
