Tailoring and what?Follow

#1 Dec 29 2004 at 9:59 AM Rating: Decent
I have learned tailoring, and am at a skill level of 14. First off is there a faster way to lvl up or you just have to make items to level?

Also what is a good assisting profession for tailoring? Can I learn to pick cotton (lets keep the jokes at bay, huh?) or is there some kind of skill that I'd most benifit from??

I disagree with the enchanting/tailor duo. With almost any tradeskill you'll want atleast one money producing skill. Tailoring is a money sink and enchanting is a money black hole. Get mining, skinning, or herbalism to offset the cost of your true primary tradeskill. I got skinning because there are a number of tailored items that do in fact use leather, but tailor/mining is good for money too. While it's true that you can disenchant tailored items for enchanting items you'll be losing serious money. People fail to realize that when you make a tailored item with cloth you've gotten as loot YOU ARE STILL LOSING MONEY. Stacks of cloth are worth a lot, even to vendors. Sure you can turn around and sell the tailored item to the vendors but you're still often losing out on some cash. WoW did a good job making cash important in this game as opposed to other(cough EQ))with the AH, the need for repairs, food/drink, spells, learning trade skills, mounts, flight paths etc. Coin is a very real concern in the game and you want to try to avoid losing all your money to tradeskills. In tailoring the only really sellable items are bags and the occasional quest item (arcana robes etc) the rest is mostly just to keep yourself geared up til you can get uber upgrades that last for a long time. Enchanting is a GREAT tradeskill....but it's the most expensive hands down. I mean Christ the way you harvest the tradeskill reagents is to destroy magic/rare items.

That's just my feeling though. I tailor/skin now and skinning is a good way to get free money. I tailored/enchanted in beta andwas displeased by how often I'd have too little money for my spells, repairs, or FPs.

I have to agree, for a starting character enchanting is not the best way to go. My priest has tailoring and skinning. I took skinning as a filler and a money making profession until he’s close to level 60. At that point I’ll most likely drop skinning and take up enchanting.

Enchanting is a great skill, but it soaks up money like a giant sponge. This is particularly bad when your also trying to save 100 gold for a mount at level 40. Once you have a mount and your high enough level to easily farm green items to disenchant, I expect enchanting will be a lot more fun.

ok, so to me it seems it makes most sense to learn skinning with my taloring. Now when you skin, what are some of the materials gained that I would be able to use?? I'm assuming skinning a hog would give me leather (or skin to craft leather). Are there materials I would gain to help my tailoring?? or strictly for money?

As you skill up in tailoring you will start to need light and medium leather at least for some of your recipes. That's as far as I've gotten with tailoring so I don't know if you'll go beyond that or not.

Well I have Tailoring/Skinning and I make alot of money selling my skins at the auction house, all the mobs that I've run into dropped light leather until I hit the lvl 20+ mobs which are now dropping medium leather..do yourself a favor and stock up on the leather and sell it at the AH. But at this point I'm really considering dropping tailoring to pick up herb & alchemy once I make up all the money I spent on 2 bags..I had 13 gold which was the most I've had and I bought 2 bags a 14 slot & a 12 slot for 12 Gold..now I'm broke again..time to skin a cat..or too or hehe..anyways skinning is a good money source.

Good to know. So far, skinning has been very useful. I sold 8 light leathers last night to someone for 1S a piece. I dont know if that was worth it or I shortchanged myself, but wtf 8 silver for killing deer, cows, and sheep. I also learned to fish but havent caught anything yet. Also found our tailoring is expensive. I just wanna make handbags to sell. I have to be level 35 or 40 for that and then buy the recipie. I think I'm at 27 now.
