OK ^^ I've been told that crafted Ammo, Scopes, & Guns give out better DPS ratings. Such as store bought Light Shot only has .5 DPS but when crafted it has around 1-1.5 DPS. Can someone confirm this? Also, what about for Scopes & Guns? Do they give out better DPS as well? I am very intrigued in this profession. Please help with what you can. I would also like to know if Engineering has great benefits towards higher levels? Like, is there Guns, Ammo, & Scopes that can only be crafted through Engineering and are better in some way?

Yes engineers can make there own scope and better ammo.
Engineering is for people who use guns, orlike to have toys/
Shrink rays, jumpercables, etc and you can make some nice bombs.
It is not a great tradeskill to make $$ at, But is wonderful for self uses. As a hunter I love being able to fake death, then being bale to rez the healer in the party if things went bad.

You can make money as an engineer by selling quest items. Deadly Blunderbuss, Gyrochronatom, Advanced Target Dummy, Mithril Casing all can bring in some decent money. Selling scopes also makes a large profit, and I cannot stress how much money you can make by just selling your excess ore. As far as utility goes, we are unmatched. We can create additional fighting pets, make ridiculous explosives, and make and sell weapons and items used in other trade skills (salt shakers, etc.)

Thanks for the info, but that still doesn't answer my questions. Heh. . . Nice try though.

Read again and see if you can understand what I am trying to ask. If you do not understand, please ask for help. I may be able to phrase it better.

Might wanna check here for Engineering stuff.

But yes, you can make better DPS ammo than you can normally buy.

Scopes add to the weapons damage, a +1 damage add pre level of the scope.

You can make better guns than can normally be found for the levels the weapons are available to.

There will always be "better" guns to get, but generally are rare finds and such. (For instance, when you make a Deadly Blunderbus, you COULD have an Ironweaver if you're lucky) As for Scopes, they are great because you can't enchant bows/guns, and add 1/2/3/7 damage depending on which you have. And the crafted shots are badass, makes me wish I could craft arrows, just cause I still like the look of Bows, oh well.

If you're going for a pure damage hunter, you can't pass up Engineer bonus's, but if you're a hybrid type, you won't care as much.

I'm not a hunter, I'm a rogue, but use a gun anyway since...well I can make them! Right now using a Moonsight Rifle which looks pretty cool and does ok for pulling when I am in group. I get 100+ crits pretty often :P Almost ready to make an Mithril Bore Rifle :)

Scopes are worth it - accurate scope I have right now is +3 to damage. If you can get a Gyromatic Micro-Adjuster then you can make em. They take steel to make, so if you arent up to smelting steel, try and find a fellow engineer to either borrow his tool or if he can sell you 2 bars of steel to make your own.

Accurate scopes sell pretty well so in the end its worth it. The can add damage to bows and guns so you have a pretty large base to sell to.

Never friggn buy shot. Make it. Its easy to make and they do more damage. In fact, you could probably sell some in AH as well. There are a LOT of hunters out there. One day a hunter had me make him 1200 solid shot and he paid me generously :P So those people are out there, toss your extra shot up in AH.

I believe someone asked about the Deepsea Dive Helmet too. Its level 230 to make it, engineer only. Sorta sucks you cant make them for your friends or to sell, but I think Blizzard knows engineers would become the Trumps of the game if they could sell those really cool gadgets. Who wouldn't want to buy a mechanical dragonling? Or a Deepsea Dive Helmet? Or the Mind Control helmet? Engineers just make all the cool junk :)

To answer the original question... Yes the crafted ammo is much higher than the merchant bought ammo, Guns tend to be stronger for the required level and I have not seen any scopes for sale by NPC Merchants but I haven't really looked (cause I can make my own).

I'm a Guild Leader as well so I watch my Guildmates levels to insure that they are always equiped with firearms that are best for their levels.

Not entirely true. Crafted stuff is, like others have posted, good and semi-convenient. You get the satisfaction of making your own. But it is not always best for your level.

For example: bought light shot is about .5, crafted light is .7, bought heavy is 1.2 (req level 100, crafted heavy is 1.5 (req level 15)

As you can see from the example, there is a leap-frog effect. As a hunter in my high teens, my gun is the best that I have seen for my level - Hunter's Muzzle Loader with +1 scope (req level 14). An engineer could create a better one - Deadly Blunderbuss (req level 16). Those required levels on most items is what really slows down overly twinking.
