#1 Dec 23 2004 at 8:20 AM Rating: Decent
I would like to get some help here as Mining can become an issue for some as to 'where to get what' whether it be Horde or Alliance;

Mulgore: Copper
Barrens: Copper - Tin - Silver(rare)
Thousand Needles: Copper - Tin -Iron - Silver(semirare) - Gold(rare) - Mithral(rare) - TrueSilver(rare)

I did mining in the past 2 days and brought my skill level to 250.

Here is what I did:

Durotar: Copper
The Barrens: Copper, Tin, Silver
Silverpine Forest (Berel's Peril): Tin
Hillsbrad Foothills: Tin
Arathi Highlands: Iron, Lesser Bloodstone (in Drywhisker Gorge), Gold
Badlands: Iron, Gold, Mithril, Truesilver

I haven't found a good place for Small Thorium yet.

Small Thorium can be found in the Burning Steppes. All over the place.

What about mining in Alliance lands?
Where is a good location for silver, and other
ores above silver?

Thorium is also populous in the mountainous areas of un'goro crater.

Mining seems fun? Is it? I hate FFXI Mining b/c every place you go is overcrowded or the monsters are to much of a higher level than you.

Mining was easy for me, mainly because I'm level 60 and dodged 99% of the monsters.

I slowed down in mining a little in Arathi, mainly because of all the damn alliance paladins were mining also.

These are areas I have found best for mining by type, the letters after are M=moderate amount and A=abundant amount:

(Disclaimer: Now if I tell you this, don't beat me to the ore ;) )

Copper:
Just run around Durotar or crossroads,Silverpine or Loch Modan with your mining radar up, I get tons of it there. Basicly Copper and tin are Abundant in the Noob areas.

Tin:
Same areas as above plus Thousand Needles, some in Ashenvale, though not much.

Iron:
Duskwood (M)
Badlands (M)
Arathi (M)
Swamp of Sorrows (M)
Hillsbrad (M)
Stonetalon (M)
Hinterlands (M)
Thousand needles (A)
Alterac (A)
Stranglethorn Vale (A)

Mithril:

Burning Steppes (M)
Stranglethorn Vale (M)
Swamp of Sorrows (M)
Searing Gorge (M)
Felwood (M)
Tanaris (M)
Blasted lands (A)
alterac (A)
Hinterlands (A)
Azshara (A)
Feralas (A)

Truesilver:

Dustwallow Marsh in dragon cave
Scattered mines throughout Tanaris

Thorium:

Blasted Lands (M)
Searing Gorge (M)
Eastern Plaguelands (M)
Azshara (M)
Tanaris (M)
Un'Goro Crater (M)
Burning Steppes (A)
Winterspring (A)

Tin is hardly "abundent in noob areas" Copper, yes, Tin not so much. Loch Murdin and Westfall have maybe 3 veins each. Earlier areas have none. Perhaps you consider 25th lev noob.

I would like to disagree with the previous comment for the alliance finding of tin. Once you hit around 14 or so and can travel to the other side of the loch without a huge problem, finding Ore is rather easy, even in peak times. I just start in town and head along the mountains south and follow it around the south side of the loch and all the way around to the area with the elite orges... following this path, I would easily find 5-6 copper veins, 5-6 tin veins and a silver vein most of the time. (if not the silver, another tin because there are two mining spawn points that switch between silver and tin) and once you get to the ogres, turn around and move your way back. by the time you get to the SE corner of the map, those all have respawned and you can find all those you have already got. Hope you find this useful.

Not sure about the other areas, but I know I've found at least 10 different tin veins in Darkshore, that seems pretty newbie to me.

If you're looking for a good source of tin, go to the Venture Co. hangout at Wailing Caverns I think it is in Stonetalon. Once you get to where all the Venture Co loggers are, follow the wall right and you'll go into a mine. That mine carries ONLY tin. Never mined copper there at all. I don't recall silver being there but only tried it a few days so I could get bronzeworking out of the way. You need to be around lvl 25 and there's major links, but great mining. I spent a couple days there then when back to the noob mines for copper and breezed through bronze pretty easily.

For those of lower levels.

Copper, I found to be fairly abundant in the newbie zones. For the dwarven lands just make sure you travel a bit outside the roads to one side or the other.

Loch Moden has lots of copper and tin as well. Tin for most of the zone is rare, but if you go down toward the lodge in the southeast corner you will find it more abundant. Look for the buzzards.

Wetlands has lots of tin and some silver and some iron. For the tin veer right after coming out of loch moden. From the first gnoll camp till you get to the waterfalls is a fair bit. If you go to the spider camps to the left you will also get the mineral for the quest (sorry dont remember name now) along with a few mines that seem to spawn more silver than tin. There is some iron in the northeast part of the zone, but be careful as the mobs are lvl 27 to 31 there, especially (hint) in the caves.

Badlands is a great area to mine, cliffs/mountains all over, alot of iron/mithrils, and a few of truesilvers... Forgot what the map name is of another place, but has a neutral town called Gatzedgen (something like that), been there a few times only to help friends with quest! But I've seen thoriums there, might be one of the safest places to find thorium, but rarety might be a problem!

this needs a bump cuz i'm tired of looking for it repeatedly, and it's a great thread...
#17 Jan 15 2005 at 2:04 PM Rating: Default
Great list =)

Tin respawns rarely as SILVER
Iron respawns rarely as GOLD
Mithril respawns rarely as TRUESILVER

Therefore, any area that is rich in Tin can respawn as Silver etc. Happy mining!

I'm looking for a mine that has Thorium in it...any ideas??

(not looking for a whole AREA...I'm looking for a specific mine a.k.a. dark cavern to go into with 2-3 veins)
#19 Jan 21 2005 at 8:54 PM Rating: Decent
Simple, go to Ironforge, turn your mining radar on at its largest radius. Now take a griffon ride to Southwind. As you fly over the contested regions, your radar will light-up with Thorium mines!!! I cannot mine them myself, but soon, very soon...

I'm only lvl 100 in Mining, but so far I've found great Copper spots and I think I might've found a good Tin spot.

Copper: Stonecairn Lake.. The island in the lake is full of copper, copper, copper, but don't expect to find anything else. When I say it's full, I mean I gathered 100 copper ore in 20 minutes (and I had competition).

Tin: Redridge Mountains. Any cave around there should have around 2 tin veins. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If you have sneak ability such as the Druid's Cat prowl ability or the Rogue's stealth ability, you can pass right by the guards and sneak around to the various veins. I gathered 20+ tin ore and 20+ copper ore in one cave before getting spottet.

Prepare to die when they spot you. Daze is such a *****.

I haven't really found any Silver, but then again, I'm only lvl 20+ and I can't survive outside familiarized territory :D

Anyone know any good places for Silver? My mining skill is almost 125 and I've yet to mine or see any Silver.

Just download the PDF file from here that lists what every zone in the game spawns as far as ore is concerned. There are also files for other professions as well.
