Hi everyone. Just would like to introduce myself. I started FFXI a few days ago on Remora. My character's name is Astarion, currently a LV11 Hume Red Mage from Bastok. Just wondering if there are any low level players in the same area that would like to play sometime. I'm only new to the game so you'll have to excuse me if I don't know a lot about the game hehe.. ;) I've been reading many stickies on the RDM forum so I know the basics.

Anyway, got some questions. I really enjoy playing as RDM, but I don't know if I want to take it as my main job. Are they still popular these days? Are RDMs still get decent invites for parties?

Also, do players still do the dunes from 10-20? Or they not as popular anymore? Would I have trouble finding a party as a RDM without a sub?

And how is Remora as a server, compared to the others? Also, I live in Sydney Australia. Do we have any Australian players, or players from a similar timezone here?

I've been trying to farm crystals to make some money... but quickly blew them on just updating gear. Are there any other ways to make some dough early on?

Anyway, I hope you'll come and say hi if you see me around. ;) Maybe we can play sometime. ;)

Regards,

Astarion

only 2 quests I can think of that lowbies can do to make gil is Bubbly Bernie and the Oxblood quest

they are repeatable and you get gil for them, but it's not alot, and very time killing...

I'm tired atm so that's all you'll get outta me till later in the day when I come back and update this with links n such

Hi and welcome to Remora!

Yes, Red Mages are still popular jobs and needed, especially as you get into the higher levels and end game. For advice and tips check out the Red Mage forum and its sticky.

I've been on Remora since I first logged in 2004 (dear gods, has it really been that long?) and haven't had any trouble meeting people and drama here is pretty much the same drama all the servers deal with. I've met several Australian players in the past and they never really complained about any difficulty in finding parties.

Low level parties might be hard to come by at times since the game is 5+ years old and the population is a bit top heavy.

Keep at it, meet people, get into a (hopefully) friendly and helpful linkshell and you shouldn't have too much trouble leveling.

Best of luck to you!

Hi there.

Thanks for the welcome... funnily enough I was playing last night and the first person that struck up a chat with me was an Australian player heheh.. ;)

I guess I might have to solo a bit to get by the low levels... but I don't mind. I am enjoying this game now, especially now red mages play.

{Nice to meet you.}

If you exit town from Port Bastok, go west until you cross a bridge, then go north until you hit a slope. Go up the hill, and go east. Kill all the bees here, but avoid the sheep; their drops are cheap and they are tough to fight. Soon you'll hit another slope. Go up there, and you will find a bunch of bees, sheep, and goblins. Kill the bees for their chips. You will eventually come to another slope, and find more goblins and bees. Go up and down the hills and kill the bees; you may still get aggro from the goblins at 11, I don't remember.

Watch out if you see Stinging Sophie, she'll make short work of you that low level. Smiley: frown Which is sad because she can drop a Lv7 knife that's very nice.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've been partying in the dunes the last couple of days and had a lot of fun. I am now LV18 RDM. Thanks to all those tho partied with me. :D Now I'll have to do the subjob quest. I only have the Crab Apron, and I need the other 2 items... problem is I am too weak to solo those enemies, but parties aren't interested in fighting those enemies as they don't bring in good EXP. I can't even get them at the AH. So does anyone here have a spare Magical Skull or Damselfly Worm? Let me know as I am willing to pay for them... although I am totally broke, I haven't even updated my gear from LV10 since they're so expensive. I've changed over to a monk to farm some crystals to make some modest money in the mean time, seeing if I can save up enough to update my sword.

Thanks for the help.

Hello-willo, I'm from Remora too, if you need any help let me know, I have my thf for key farming and other rare items that might be needed for quest and a whm for helping out with other missions and quest.

I'm not a fan of level cap figths, but part from that I'm helpful with most stuff.
