Well lot of time for update to go through today.
So whats you favorite memory of Sylph ?

I remember the good old days when there was a role playing linkshell that lived in the counts manor. They where great bunch of players but strictly stayed in character. That has to be almost 5 years ago.

I started playing the day of the NA release, and I have the very fond memory of being repeatedly trained by several fun-loving characters in the Garliage.

I had to say - even though it sucked... it did keep me on the edge of my seat.

The good old days was when everything was an adventure when you were a low level char. I met a friend that was level 25 and I thought it was so cool. He took me to both Bastok and Sandy as a level 7 char. It was exciting dodging the high level mobs and sitting on the boat to Selbina.

The good ole days was when I'd look at these forums, and know each person posting. I think I recognize like 2 names anymore. Can't complain much since I don't play anymore though, just interested in what the new mini-expansion did. :p

I'm almost at the 5 year mark myself.

I remember /checking ppl runnin by me in ronfaure when I started out. I'd see 75/37 and go whoooaaaaa....I didn't pay attention to gear or anything, I was just in awe of the lvl.

****, my first time in a pt I panicked like crazy. I was 17war and I had to be escorted to the camp in VD from la theine. I checked the 1st fly we fought and saw Incredibly Tough and about shat myself. I 2hr'd >.> After the fly died the pt leader said, "Munkin, why did you use Mighty Strikes?" I don't remember my reply, but I do remember feeling like a tard.

My first experience being mpk'd was when I tried to get to Norg the first time. Stupid crabs XD. And yes entering the Nest was a gamble on your life lol.

As for the Crystalline Prophecy, its something different to do which is cool, especially when you're doing it with long-time ls mates ^^ Camping all those freakin orcs against 60ppl gave me the adrenaline rush I used to feel the 1st time I camped VE and the Castle Oztroja NMs :D Oh yeah, and can't forget Spook!!!!!

I collect screenshots of my journeys.
http://www.darkmystics.com/ffxi/stories.shtml has some of the old SS that survived.. I wish I could find the other ones. =( but dont think there are any since it was on PS2.. and I think Ive formatted since.

But yea, many times I feel I am that lil Taru WHM from that flash video.. cause I still have the LS.

Oh wow, good ole times , My first job to lv. was RDM, and I subbed MNK.... I thought that The MAX HP Boost combined with Convert would give me MAX MP Boost, boy I'm glad I wised up by lv.30. Oddly enough I got to Lv.31 in my first 2 weeks, and no one ever said a thing about it.

Another good ole memory was an angry taru in Yhoatr Jungle trying to MPK my Dragoon with Goblin Smithy's and screaming he was going to add me to his "list". He got about 3 gob's wrangled before he died... Then I had to go zone to Kazahm to job change and raise him (which by the way was litterally two steps away).

Remember when..... Ahhhhh Pirates!!!!!! or SEA HORROR!!!!

I enjoyed the days from 1-75 on MNK, everything was new and fresh. I did 3 10-15hour exp pty's, Garliage Citadel, Ayd Subterraine, and Bibiki Bay. Theres no way I'd have the stamina for somthing like that now. I start to get really bored after ~2hours of exp/meriting (unless i have some Vodka or suming).

I also liked the old days in Qufim/Yutunga Jungle/GCitadel/Crawlers Nest, it used to add a certain excitement that pty'ing doesn't offer there nowadays. The bad side of it was when ppl were purposly mpk'd. I remember being wiped out by a train in Palborough mines a couple of times which really confused me at the time.

There were times before BCNM's (and other BC style events) where my hands would become all clammy from the anticipation of whats to come. FInishing CoP was a huge milestone for me. I have to say, its very nice having ACP to work through, mission storylines make the game fun, all the ppl who said the 3-mini expansions were a sign the game is dying were all wrong. Theres so much content already in the game, adding more land/zones/jobs is not needed in the game right now. More story's from existing Characters in enviroments we are already familiar with was definately a great move from SE - good job guys!

I miss skillchains, magic bursts, and in a small way camping an NM against Kxtfsl. Even MPK added some flavor to running around, or just real aggro for that matter. I also remember sitting at the OP in WestRon and watching people do Garrison, it looked pretty fun.

Let me state more of the GOOD days..

- Back when fishing was MINDLESSLY fun. Click X, wait for a catch, Click X again to pull it in. God I wish I could go back in time and grind fishing before the update happened to where you have to watch it now.

- MPK trains were OMG RUN AWAY FROM THE NOOB BRINGING THEM TO THE ZONE!!!111!!

- When cities were more populated.. ever since Al Zhabi, the past etc.. The starter cities rarely have bazaars or much of a population. Even lower jueno isnt as popular anymore.

- When teleports were popular and getting them was lil more of a challenge but was least in style more.. now its Warp taru, OP warping and FoV.

and for my final one..

- When you could use the Spring version of the FFXI guide book and actually ENJOY using the book for questing and a fair amount of what you could learn about the game. (I know I still can use it on new chars, its still a lil easier to navigate for new char questing when you wanna do zone at a time) Man I wish they would do a new guidebook.. I know we have this site, but I like to have a book in my lap when I am doing stuff vs looking at the screen.

lol speaking of the the guide book, was it brady that released that first guide? I still have one from yrs ago. It's at my friend's house around the corner. I gave it to him for the beginner missions/quests and maps when he started playin. I remember the beautiful uproar the job section caused. It actually suggested that ppl can break out of the mold! Imma have to get that guide back so I can elaborate ><

Oh you can find everything here and get comments on items etc. However, the book wasnt a bad buy for Synth cafting (A starting point lets say) and quests. Was nice just to have that in your lap. =D

Oh yea, I almost forgot another good ol day thing..

- Back when you could take over a zone by having your nation trade items to a outpost for some major takeovers! Too bad they killed the amount of CP your nation gets for doing that now.

I remember logging in for the first time ever and couldnt figure out how to move my character at all and i just kept yelling at an npc asking him how to move thinking he was just a player staring at me for an hr.

I remember reading my brady guide to sleep when i was too tired to play after getting to lvl 6 blm.

I remember trying to npc my first linkpearl for gil.

I remember going to tahrongi canyon for my first party ever and they told me we were waiting on a tank and i thought they meant a real tank :( and when a friend told me he was going to go farm for his new body piece i assumed it involved a tractor.

I remember nobody knowing how to do anything, having to figure everything out for yourself. There were no information repositories, you had to solve quests by your own ability.
I remember 200k being a fortune and 1M being an impossible amount.
I remember thinking sneak attack would also make you undetectable to sound.
I remember calling level 50s high leveled.
I remember leveling in Dangruf Wadi with 2 other THF15s, all of us timing our sneak attacks so the goblin died before any of us got killed.
I remember wearing elemental bonus gear, thinking it was actually helpful.
I remember being new, and every zone holding a new environment, a new discovery for me to make.
I remember when penta thrust returned 60 TP and nobody had a f*cking clue what ninja was supposed to sub.
I remember mining being lucrative, and the ghosts in gusgen mines scaring the crap out of me.

Our feelings of the past are always tinted by nostalgia. However, things are always a LOT more fun when you've just started learning them. Regardless, once you've lost your naivete in this world, it never returns. RIP magic and mystery. :`(

I played on this server when I started playing FFXI a few weeks/months after the USA release. I've always been a fan of FF's and I just had to have this game.

I've met some awesome ppl (Atileana, Biggss, Iglo, Emperorcyrus, Edicius, and more ppl who's names I can't remember) and was in an awesome LS. We did some awesome things and I'll always treasure the great memories I have of you all.

My best memories of the game, are unlocking all the classes (except for the ones of the newer expansions). Doing the quests, getting the items and finally lvling the first 13-15 lvl's solo of that class. I just loved it.

I think I've spent about 800-900 hours in a few months before I quit because I got tired of grinding and waiting for a group for 3-4 hours.

I tried returning like 1-2 years ago, but only Emperor was online and he didn't really remember me too well. I'm even thinking of returning now, but I just don't have the time anymore to play 3-4 hours a day and I don't wanna waste the little time I have by lfg in chat. Too bad this game can't be played solo, otherwise I'd start playing again for sure.
