I was looking forward to bringing my girl to this server to join up with an RP LS< but upon touring Bastok I noticed it was pretty barren.. compared to, say, Odin at least.
Did I jsut come at a bad time, or something?

Considering odin's been getting like 2-3 notice of people needing to get the @#%^ out, and isn't available for character creation now...

Starter cities are like that on all servers, save Odin due to overpopulation there. In a game this old, most players are scattered more evenly across the world doing a variety of things. Starter cities have less to offer many of us at this point compared to other places such as Whitegate. All in all, the population of Sylph is really no different than most other servers. The server is far from dead so don't worry about that. And welcome to Sylph by the way ^^

Perhaps. Sylph has been pretty quiet as of late, apart from the shout whores in Whitegate. It seems even there you are hard pressed to get a tele/warp/retrace with out a inconveinant wait(I was 20 mins late to dynamis a few times when I had started shouting to head out a little early). Maybe this is because the tele/warp/retrace people have thier shout filters turned off from the mindless chatter or they are silently protesting the offers of 1k.
hehe wb and no sylph is not dead but the numbers can be strange, at 9pm eastern last night there was only 1.3k on the server and this morning there is 2.3k on. In comparison to the other servers I have traveled to this one does have its population more spread out. You can find ppl in sandy and in Whitegate, where like on diabolos sandy is ghost town. I agree it has to do with just being one of the original tribes of cobol that the cylons started....
There are always people around. Just not lots like in the early days of the game. Just be patient and you will find people. Just not hundreds of them. Sylph is alive and well. Perhaps better than most.

one this is for sure we do have a few karma campers who make up the population on sylph
Most ppl seem to be Sandy too. Maybe its the same on most servers, but Basty is the least populated on Slyph out of the 3 starter nations.
I <3 Basty. I grew up there. But I ve done most the quests there, killed the near by NM's, retired from the days of mining (due to the stupid economy) and got my rank 10, so I moved to Sandy too! Its doesn't have the homely feeling that Basty did, but its enough. (Bastok Markets (S) ftw!)

Oh and I am a native from Sandy on my first charecter (also on Sylph) who is now just a cooking mule. My current charecter is Bastokan Rank 9 and though my heart still lies in Sandy, my laziness lies in Bastok Rank 9... hmmm I should probably just do those last few fights. My cooking mule is still in Sandy and I always see more action there than in Bastok except for around event times such as haloween or easter.
