Getting kicked out of the server, and being forced to download an update that wasn't given warning prior to, while in the middle of an XP party is BULL****. Square-Enix, are the people at your office consistantly eating paint chips? Why put an update on at 1AM at night and force kick people to download it? Here's a tip, if your servers are such **** even though we pay you so much money, then dont KICK people off and force them to download an update if all they're going to get is "Server is busy: Unable to reconnect" errors.

Yeah that was pretty unproffesional of them in my opinion...

Some of our party almost died due to that.

No, it took me 3 hours while Kat's took 3 minutes. They aparently have a few download servers and no intelligent load balance system.

I have noticed that if it starts to take awhile to download the update, then you need to cancel and start again. This seems to speed it up for me. The load balance does seem a little whacked.

I had mule on all day and night and i never experienced any such "update".

I also checked POL's website and find no such article about an emergency or any other type incident.

Mine took about 2 hours to DL, probably because it was peak time when I started it. I just went to bed early on Wednesday night... had plans to level with Dweia, too... was a little annoyed, but knew it was scheduled and should have started the DL earlier when I was doing other RL things.

If this is NOT an immediately mandatory download, Square Enix should put an option up that says "Download now?" or "Download later?"

SE should also make it known that if you choose "Download later" that there WILL be a date you MUST have it downloaded by. (What's the use of an upload patch if people will continue to choose "Download later"?)

Nonetheless, this way, you can play out your game, then download it before you log for the night, or download it first thing when you start your next session. And should you get booted, your offline time is minimized.

The intent of an update that doesn't shut down all world servers is great, but if they're going to choose this route, they need to modify how you obtain that file.

But since SE isn't going to change things anytime soon, then it's up to us to prepare.

If we know there's an update going on that doesn't require the game servers to be shut down, monitor when the update will be finished. If you're not doing anything at the moment, just log off and reboot the game and update. Get some food or whatever during the time, be it a quick snack or to start a meal. By the time you're finished, the game will be finished. That way, IF you are booted in the middle of a party, all you have to do is log back in, not worry about the update file.

The problem is, it's too unbalanced on who gets kicked and who doesn't. Sure some toon in Jeuno that's just a mule selling **** meat might not get kicked. But what happens when the 46PLD in Quicksand Caves gets DC'ed right when a mob adds, and you're at a camp three flee-worth's away from zone, but stay that far because you are in a static that normally has no trouble with links? Or what happens if your PL'er (whether you agree with PL or not is irrelevent) gets DC'ed right after they tell you to pull two tough mobs because they have full MP?

What happens if you're in a Zilart Mission 4 Party that's on their last run and you are the only person that isn't useful to the party but managed to get an invite to finally get it done, and you get DC'ed and can't come back on for an hour and a half, and when you do get back on, they're all gone and your stuck out in Yhoator Jungle?

If you're in game, you shouldn't be KICKED by Square-Enix, and if the servers are over-run, and they have to kick people, they should have the GM's manually kick people. So they can kick the freakin' NM-bots at Labyrinth of Onzozo and Castle Oztroja, or the annoying llllshopllll mules in towns, or the freakin' Haixing group to balance out the freakin' economy and actually be a GAME MASTER, and not a traffic cop like the annoying police at SAn Diego that pull you over for having a crucifix on your rear view mirror but don't attempt to stop the drug dealer selling dope to high school students.

My thing is, with issues like this, when is Square Enix going to do THEIR freakin' job?

If it's not updating quickly, cancel it. We all experience D/Cs, it happens. I updated during NA prime time and it was completed within 2-3 minutes. We KNEW there was an update to download, so we can't blame them. The reason it required a download is because the lobby required something within the update to operate, thus you wouldn't be able to have "Download Now" or "Download Later" options.
