Selbina-Mhaura Horror Story! Chinese Farmers?Follow

#1 Sep 07 2004 at 7:34 AM Rating: Good
Okay... hopefully enough people here are familiar with me to a degree to know I don't bullshyte around. I think something I witnessed yesterday on the Ferry needs to be shared.

I was taking the ferry from Selbina to Mhaura to get to the outpost in Buhrimba (sp) Peninsula. While sitting on the dock waiting to leave I saw two naked Galka in front of me. They were identical and each were standing on the end of the dock.. .side by side. I was seeing double. I joked to my mates that 'I see Twins!' I decided to do a 'check' on each of them. What I found was odd. Both were Bastok Rank 1, MNK20 and had no subjob and no equipment. One did have fishing gear in the ammos slot. There names were Katoto and Popia.

Boat loaded... they were the last to enter the boat (after having the dock blocked and everybody squeezing around). Somebody made comments like "Galka get out of the way" and a few other. No response. Their movements to get into the boat were erratic to say the least. They ran into walls and just couldn't quite make a straight line. There were unusual pauses in their movements. It was hard to pass up as Galkan Beer. They also seemed to not part far from each other. I checked them again and waved. No response.

After a few minutes of water travel, I came back down to the hold of the ship and see what the two oddball Galkan naked twins were up to. What I found was even more troubling. There were two naked Taru down there as well. One was a WHM20, Bastok Rank 1, no gear. That one was called Rababa. The second Taru was anon, but had no gear except for fishing tackle in the ammo slot. Eventually, the Galka named Papia and the anon one, Budidi traveled to the deck of the ship. Papia made an unsual line to the front of the ship and just stood there. Budidi started to speak.

Two lines I wrote down that were spat from the mouth of Budidi were "you na guo ren" and then "chuan shang you zhong guo ren ma." She also kept saying "55555555555555555555555555." She repeatedly said something about "Level 2." One of the other people on the boat was trying to communicate to her, but not having a ton of luck. More emoting was happening than anything.

But I save the best for last. When I went into the hold of the ship, there was a fifth person down there. A Bastok Rank 1, no gear but fishing tackle in the ammos slot. However, they were a THF01. She was a female mithra named Chaosette. Two perfectly identical white Galkans and two Taru that were at least physically identical on the boat with the Lv.1 Thief in a place they should not be. All for a fishing trip...but they did not fish.

What is going on here?

Well firstly, it would be impossible to bot fish off the ferry since, unless you are very high level, must "sneak fish" due to the sea horror.

They could've been taking mules to another city is my guess. Some of the nekkid low levels may have been doing a "nekkid run for fun and gil to Xmarksthespot". Those are always fun to do with LS or friends. :)

Nope... they weren't fishing off the ferry.

They also did not belong to a LS. It was just odd. If this were part of an evil conspiracy... my guess would be they are some sort of leveling party.

Its hard to explain how they moved... but on the boat and in Mhaura they were just all over the place. I'm trying to tell myself it was an elaborate joke. Two white nekkid Galka MNK20s that were physically identical. My thought was that they were some sort of static party and likely taking a mule to another city.

What's funny is that I saw Rababa right outside S. Sandy not an hour after you told me about this, Hersh. Then a level 1 monk, no gear, no sub.

What *I* find unusual is that the level 20s had no subs. If I didn't have a sub, I wouldn't be wandering Vana'diel - I'd be busting my hump to get it.

Let me translate some of what they said..

"you na guo ren" - "Have "na" country people here". Not too sure what "na" stands for

"chuan shang you zhong guo ren ma." - "Are they any chinese people on this ship?"

Yes.. I am chinese and no, I am not a Gil Farmer

Thanks for translations!

Nope... not all Chinese are gil farmers. I bet there are U.S. and Japanese gil farmers too!

I see I got rated down. Hopefully you did not think I was insinuating all Chinese are gil farmers. I knew they were Chinese, because I have good Asian friends and they have tried to teach me (without luck) their language.

*rates Hershai back up*

I've seen some strange things in the past few weeks as well.

Anyone ever notice that Galkans seem to be the only race that intentionally try to run through you rather than step aside? Then again, I guess if I was that big I'd expect others to move out of the way too when I came thundering through.

I've even been running from the moghouse in Bastok to the auction house and dodged to the side to avoid an oncoming Galka just to have him turn around and run through me when I was at the auction house...

...just thought I'd see if it was just me they do this to...

But. If we are starting to get gil farmers in groups on Sylph, it will hurt us. People have come to our server from other servers to escape this problem. I don't want to try to go logging in Ghelsba only to find that there are people there camping the logging points all day long, with no courtesy because they're doing it to sell the gil.

I don't care if they work for a company or not (ex: the self-admitted gil seller Eva). I don't want them here. I prefer to be around people who are playing the game to, y'know, play and not ***** things up for other people. :/

I think it's natural for us to be a little paranoid when we see strange things, because these individuals and companies are a fact of online gaming.

I just wanted to point it out. I have about thirty days of game time in and aside from the occassional people running against walls for long periods of time... I have never seen strange behaviour and situations like this before. It was just eerie. I really wish I had taken a screenshot of them standing at the dock. Had weird Twilight Zone vibes!

Thanks Dyterium!

I also try to spread the love!

Eva is really a gil seller? I see her in Bastok all of the time.

Someone said in the blacklist thread that he'd admitted to it. He used to (still does?) camp Lizzy constantly and apparently sold 2 million gil to one of the companies. Now, this is not MY EXPERIENCE with him, but I'm repeating something from the blist thread. Now, I can vouch for Eva getting many pairs of boots (three in the history at Bastok at least) and he was trying to get all the seals in a VD party for BCNM, according to Hatfield, I think it was.

Or maybe this was from the 'True Hollywood stories' thread instead of the blist thread. I'm not sure.

I have walked into walls too while talking... or did it once on choco... while in Rollenberry Fields... had to use the rest facilties in a hurry. Somebody sent me three 'hello' tells. When I didn't answer, there was a /s on the screen where a person said he didn't think bots rode chocobos! The guy asking must have been thinking I was a bot and told his friend such.

I guess a chocobo riding into a tree for five minutes can be quite odd.

Whenever I put auto-run on to board an airship or the ferry.... 5/10 times I'll hear someone in say claiming I'm a bot or my bot must have messed up or something.

*sigh* Yeah bots are bad and have messed up the server but I think people who don't know what they're talking about should'nt make accusations.

Here's a more disturbing story along the same lines.

I was smithing in bastok while LFG a couple days ago. I get a random /tell from somone i didn't know, named Kxtfbf. I had heard something about a group of Kx---- people running around dunes leveling, all with Kx as the start of the name. So i did a /sea all Kxtfbf. It was a 41 whm / 10 blm rank 1.

The tell was even odder for someone of that level... In broken English, it was "where can i get a map of Bastok". For one, someone of that level has never been to bastok?? Then he/she asked for the <pos> of the Garske (or something like that, i dont remember). I had never heard of it, so I asked the LS. no one else had either, so i responded "No idea what you're talking about, what is it?" they said "I want to hit it" and thats all they could tell me.

So after thinking for a few seconds, i came to think that this was someone who bought the Kxtfbf character (there was debate as to if they were being leveled to be sold a while back). So I said "Did you buy this character online?". there was no response. So i did /sea all Kx to see how many were online. there was 6, all members of a pt, all 41/10 rank 1 from sando. 2 wars, blm, thf, anon, and the whm was the leader, all in Bastok Markets. So, good pt setup, no adv jobs, same level, same sub level....

So this is when i realized that i was talking to the account seller, not buyer, and they were STILL leveling them.

As to the "Well, they arent bothing you" comment, they sure as **** ARE bothering me. What happens if they get the group up to 75 and sell the accounts, then someone who's never played (or played until it got to be a pain in the ***) and bought the account, then is in my group to do an HNM or Dynamis or something else... That person will most likely get everyone killed.

And here's the worse case, that if these accounts get bought, and whoever is doing it sees a good profit margin, there will be alot more of these groups. Besides just being "wrong", it DOES have serious potential to hurt me, and everyone else too.

Here's what i see as an order of stuff that hurts all of us, from least amount of damage to the game to the greatest.

Gil buying
Boting
Gil Selling
Selling your account because you quit.
Buying an account because you're bored.
Selling groups of accounts for the sole purpose of money.

Anyways, i dont know what can be done, or if anything could be done, since technically they havent done anyhting wrong, yet... But i would hate to see this continually happen. It's bad enough now that everytime i camp an NM, im trying to guess who the bots are... Imagine getting in PT's, and trying to guess who bought their accounts.

Havent ever run into the characters mentioned by the OP...but I have seen the Kxt--- group a bit...as well as the Haixing's and the infamous Kaoji/Laoniu/Yuking etc.

The Kxt--- group...I saw them in Garlaige leveling once when I was passing through, and I tossed a few of them Cures and they were talking to me and one of them started thanking me and talking for a bit...I couldn't elicit a response from the others though.. Does this suggest anything? No. Just my experience.

The Haixings...I've had simultaneous conversation with all 6 of them at once before (in my horrible broken Chinese)...they told me they're a bunch of RL friends that decided to make chars with the same name. Again...this can't be taken to be factual...just what they told me at the time. Though there are 1 or two of them in Delkfutts tower and 2 in Beadeaux at all times...I'm not sure to think of that behavior.

Kaoji/Laoniu/Yuking...Castle Oztroja...Ochido's Kote and Fuma Kyahan...ALL THE TIME. I've PT'd with Yuking before...he's HORRIBLE. He was like 41 RDM/15 THF at the time. These chars...created to make money for certain. Fact.

Does any of this REALLY bother me? Not really. Maybe it's selfish, but the people I play with as well as myself...aren't really *HURT* in deep ways by these actions...we can still XP, make money, buy items, go on quests, and plainly have fun without incredible inconveniences...hence...meh...people will do what they will do... As for these questionable characters...I'm sure they have SOME sort of defense GM calls or whatever could *happen*, so really, I think it better to work around it.

(Beat JP to an NM...I've done it...was probably luck, but it's definitely possible)
(Beat a bot to a NM, I've done that too...i KNOW it was luck...but there are ways around it ^^ *ahem* {Dragoon} {Power})

Ok... I'll admit it... I bought my account from a chinese gil seller!

...

But on a more serious note, I'd have to say that this whole account selling thing isn't really an issue.

For one, anyone that buys these accounts is a total loser. And more likely than not, their personality is going to shine through the character. Or lack of, whatever the case may be. With a totally UBER-LAME name to boot. After a few months of sucking and having no friends would probably drive them to quit.

As for gil selling... this will probably never change. As of this posting, you can buy 50k gil for 10 bucks. I'd have to say the income of the average player in the game is 20k an hour or LESS. If a person makes 10 dollars an hour, they're gonna see that as a way to save real-life time.

Of course, the people that do this are also the types to never invest into a craft... so they blow it on total BS. And the cycle continues...

Ok, that's fine. Money from the economy all going straight to one person. Then straight back in. Where's the problem?

Clearly, the drive of players to make gil to sell for real-life money. The people that do that completely idiotic farming for hours on end, ruining those spots. The people that camp NMs just to get gil to sell...

Because of that, I personally believe gil-selling should at the LEAST be attempted to be stopped. Why can't SE at the least threaten legal action vs. Mysupersales? It's the BIGGEST gil seller website right now, and everyone goes to them to sell gil. Just taking them out would probably cut the drive in half.

Well I'll tell you why. Square-enix is the kind of company that schedules an update on a national holiday. Square-enix is the kind of company that is "ok" with bots, simply because people sit there smoking a bong while their bot vokes argus 24/7. Square-enix is the kind of company that's going to make money whether they EVER deal with a single issue in it's community or not. Why? Because we're all Final Fantasy addicts and are going to play no matter what.

In conclusion, I think people on this forum need to realise one thing. Complaining to this message board will get nothing accomplished. An hour or two of reads perhaps, but it won't change anything. You have to take your complaint directly to Square-enix, through email or on the phone or both. Trying to convince others to complain as well? Thats ok to post here. The more SE hears about an issue the faster they will deal with the issue.

But at the same time, I probably shouldn't be saying that. All the posts on these boards about half-brained suggestions as to how the game "should be" or "here's my idea for an event" would clog up the customer service and block out anything of substantial importance to Square-enix. So ignore what I said, trolls! Everyone else, think about it. :P

Edit: Had to change a word so people knew what I was talking about.

{Umm...}

While that's all well and good, and I agree with some of your points, I believe the OP's intent was just to indicate that he had seen something strange that may or may not be gil sellers on Sylph, something we haven't had a lot of trouble with when compared to the other servers.

Heard about this in my LS and Chaosette is not a bot or anything. Chaosette is the mule of Chaosbringer, and he was taking Chaosette to Windurst to do the Aspir quest. He had an escort, so they were on the boat as well. He mentioned that there were a lot of low levels on the boat when he took her.

I ran into Papia, Katoto and Rababa last night.

They are still MNK20 and WHM20, Bastok Rank 1 and only equipping fishing gear... the exact same rods and lores.

AND... they were fishing together in Bastok Markets. I noticed they do not have linkshells.

Anyways, they were there for a few hours. I noticed a 'twitch' in their animation after every cast returned. Their macro or whatnot probably does an 'equip' in case of broken rod. Their casting times are very precise in timing.

After talking to Zav about her problems farming last night and watching these 'fishermen'... I was a bit sad that Sylph is perhaps getting invaded more and more.
