After days of soul-searching I am beginning to wonder if my expectations of what I should be accomplishing in this game are too high.

If I hit level 62 before Sunday (which I am sincerely hoping I do, as I am about 5500 tnl), that will have seen me go from level 45 to level 62 in just about six weeks. This same time frame has also seen me take my WAR sub from level 27 to 800 away from level 33, acquire all my AF, and go from rank 5 to rank 7.

I have had friends in my LS tell me that this is an incredible pace. I'm just wondering what others think. FFXI is my first online game, so I am used to traditional RPGs where it's possible to gain 17 levels in a matter of days.

What all this has lead to is many late nights, many nights of logging on as soon as I get home from work, and many weekends spent doing nothing but leveling. The greatest fear I have, though, is that if I level more slowly, all my friends will rush past me in level, and I won't be able to party with them anymore. This fear is reinforced by the fact that some of them have passed me up, even at the pace I am going. This is one of the reasons I am dying to get a static, so this would become less of a worry.

Thoughts? Comments? Anyone? Anyone?

Noji I truly inderstand your fear of people passing you by if you tone it down a bit and take breaks here and there. But this is may be another way to look at it, although you may have friends who levely more quickly than you do they are still your friends correct, so if you take your time and level at your own pace this may give you the chance to meet even more people.

I for one have had this happen to me in fact I think you and I partied once in the Citadel awhile back and I am only 55 where as you are in or nearing the 60's I'm sorry I don't remember from your original post exactly what leve you said you were. I am not against leveling at all and feel like sometimes thats all I do.

But as of late I have been taking some time to just help out the LS, explore, and just have some fun. This is a game and we pay for it so we should be able to do whatever we want in it to have fun.

So I guess my point is do whatever you feel is right if you feel like your in a rush to level and absolutely need 75 and you feel like your playing keep up which is what is kind of sounds like to me, you probably could use a break. Go out goof off and have some fun. Maybe some of those people will go with you and you won't fall behind but have some really good fun together and thats what friends and gaming together is about.

But this is just my opinion and I could be wrong hope I helped a little. Take Care.

Me, Keeeblerelf, Captinchaos and Bor have formed a semi-static. We always level our "mains" together even though our game time varies from person to person. We Don't level our mains outside the static. God knows there is enough stuff in this game with subjobs, quests, AF, etc.. etc.. to keep us busy when we aren't leveling out mains. Yea, I've seen some people blaze past us in level since we usually manage to level our mains 2 or 3 nights a week. But, it is SO SO rewarding to know your party members, know they can do thier jobs and just break in 2 new people per party. Or, if we are really lucky, pull in people like Reign or Ashel who have partied with our "static" enough to know thier role and do it exceptionally well. Plus, since our mains are all the same level, we hit the same milestones at the same time and help each other with them. Tell your friends to pick a job and form a static with them. Trust me, it makes the least it does for me.

I have been playing since the PS2 release - March 2004. And what have I accomplished since then?

Unlocked SAM, NIN, RNG, SMN.

As you can see, you are lvling quickly, aside from people playing 4-5 hrs a day 6-7 days a week.

Spent 3 Weeks trying to get a limit 1 party / 2 weeks trying to find a limit 2 party.

Well my LS has finally grown up with 6+ in the high 50's low 60's and a few in the 70's. Now we are planning on doing lots of other activities together.

I don't think you need to worry about people passing you. I remember back in the day when Raineer and I were of the same lvl :) Now look he is a lvl 72. Congrats Raineer.

First off - ***** what anyone else thinks.

The key question is, regardless of how much time you spend on the game, is it making you happy? Are you having fun? Then keep playing at your own pace.

So long as you aren't casting aside important things in life (like calling out sick from work just to play the game), then I see no problem with it.

...and if you can, as Rapierdwit said above, get a static. If you can't find one, try starting your own. Even just having one person to team up with, can greatly reduce the stress of forming up parties and having to play with so many different types of people.

Heh - I feel like 56-61 in a month was fast! I guess it's because I took off about 2 1/2 - 3 months just to farm/mine/craft/make income for buying gear I felt I needed to be effective in a party.

You're a good person, as I witnessed from your help with 5-1. Thanks again for that. Level at your own pace - don't worry about your friends. Most of my friends I've made are never at the same level as I am. The ones that are lower allow me the joy of helping out a friend. The ones that are higher allow me the joy of bugging them for help, =).

OH my I love this thread lol. I thought i was the only one that took "Static" parties..I call them "Gaurdians" tho..Im a summoner and im a FF freak lol so i loved the idea that FFX gave us. Well i have one "gaurdian" his name is shalidar. we are Super Static i guess we lvl all jobs together when ever we can as much and as often as we can. tho we have much more fun lvling our main jobs , his being pld mine being smn. not to sound like an advertisement but im looking for 3 cool people to start hanging out with and maybe be a Gaurdian or "static" party as you guys call it. I got one, and onter thats getting the game in a few months one on the maybe/not sure yet side so ...but hey more than 5 is always good. anyway. I would say just go with our own pace , maybe take a break from xp parties and try to see how well yuou can do in craftig or a week or two of quiet fishing. but anyway you want to spend your time ...i say more power to ya! ^^
