I regret to announce that as of November 1st, I'll no longer be playing FFXI.

My wallet was stolen the other day, and there was approx. $4,000 charged to my card. I called and reported it stolen, but the purchases had already been made, so my credit card company wouldn't lift any payments.

I will be playing out the rest of the month, and quite possibly, I may even get a new CC by November and continue, but as of this moment my decision is to leave the FFXI Community.

Sorry to all my friends, all the people that I have met on this "game." I give my thanks to those of you who helped when I needed it, and for just being all around good people.

To those of you who did me wrong.. You've got what you wanted, I hope you're satisfied.

As of November 1st, 2004, I bid thee farewell Siren, and again... My sincerest apologies to all of my friends, and acquaintences.

Again, I send my thanks to "most" of Siren, for being so kind.

Godspeed all.

I use to work for hotels.com and we use to sometimes have problems with credit card fraud. Now I didn't work in the fraud department but was the intermedium between the customer and the fraud department. So with that said, I can offer advice that may or may not help you in this situation; but it's worth a shot to maybe get some of these charges erased.

If the card company isn't doing anything about it, try contacting the places of buisness in which the purchases is made (specially if they are online companies), they in return will contact your C.C. company.

Second thing to do is actually file a report with your local police department. Let's put the ******* behind bars if he is caught.

Contact your credit card company again to have a new CC# and card reinstated. Now with all of these accomplished the best that can happen is you'll see the charges dropped, especially if they places that the purchases was made drops the charges to the CC Company (it actually happens alot...don't know how many charges I dropped because of fraud.) If this doesn't happen at least your helping catch some asshat who probally is doing this to others...and has an underlevlel sub and bad eq. lol

No way...

That's crap. But I guess it's to be expected that people would do something like that. I'm really sorry to hear this happened to you. I didn't get a chance to know you very well but it was nice to have you either way.

I hope you can patch things up, and I hope that everything works out alright for you.

Good luck, keep us posted, and most importantly, take care.

Wouldn't it be true that the places that accepted the card without proof of identity are responsible for the charges, because no proof was provided? If they were physical stores, I know they'd be completely responsible if they didn't collect a signature, or if it didn't match yours.

Online I'd assume they'd have some way of tracking where the charges came from..Just a thought.

I know my family recieved a 52-page cell phone bill once, the plan was taken out with our card. We had no idea how or where they'd gotten our number, but I'm positive that the telephone company didn't make us pay.

I'm going to do what I can to have them alleviate the charges on my card, I'll do what Kohn mentioned.

I really don't want to just leave so many of my friends behind, so I'm going to do my best to keep "Dranoface" alive, but I cannot make any promises to anyone, even myself for that matter.

I hope I can do something about this, although, I should be able to, the CC companies can't just let this sort of thing happen like this.

I'm going to get a Visa/Mastercard Debit card from my bank, I'm sick of CC's, I've been screwed over by them too often.

Anyway.. wish me luck everyone, I only hope I can get through this *********

Drano, Hey my brother had this happen to him a couple of years ago and the credit card company recredited his accounts. You just have to talk to the Fraud department of your CC company and also file a police report. Its a hassle but it should help you straighten things out. Also might want to contact the 3 Credit Bureau companies and flag your Name for Credit Fraud. I believe the 3 companies are Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. Hope that helps.

FYI: It looks like you should only be out $50 dollars, now most credit card co's I've worked with will fully refund all illegal charges. The best thing you can do is put your dispute in writing send it certified mail, police report, possibly sign an affidavit.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/cards.htm

Reporting Losses and Fraud
If you lose your credit or charge cards or if you realize they've been lost or stolen, immediately call the issuer(s). Many companies have toll-free numbers and 24-hour service to deal with such emergencies. By law, once you report the loss or theft, you have no further responsibility for unauthorized charges. In any event, your maximum liability under federal law is $50 per card.

If you suspect fraud, you may be asked to sign a statement under oath that you did not make the purchase(s) in question.

For More Information

The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint or to get free information on consumer issues, visit www.ftc.gov or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.

No Drano, you can't leave...If it weren't for you I wouldn't be Rank 5 now. And all the fun you brought to the Hawk'sRaiders, all times we keep bumping into each other to share Insults...Say it ain't so...I'll have to notify everyone of this. >.>

Chin up though, These things happen, and the basturds will be caught. It's just going to require Back tracking through the CC's transaction records.

Anyway, You will be missed friend. At least I hope I was considered a friend...

See what happens when you act like a total *** to people you don't even know? Thats a crappy situation, and I wish you well in the outcome only because credit theft sucks, but as far as I'm concerned, "What goes around, comes around."

( I know you didn't pirate anyone's credit, don't play dumb, you know what I mean. )

Normally, I wouldn't go around starting flames.. but seriously Harkette, why do you think I'm an ***?

You come past myself and Karah talking, and you corrected her spelling without even knowing her, that's just plain out rude.

And, as well, when you were partying in Delkfutt's Tower the other night, and you called for help on that bat, I could have very easily let you all die, but I didn't, because I'm not an ******* like you play me out to be.

While I was in the Tower while you were xping, I gathered about 6 Gigas, and was on my way to your camp.. then I thought about how your party didn't need to suffer from your ignorant actions, so I stopped.

Give it up Harkette, just because Punisher tells you to think I'm an ***, doesn't mean I am. And you know **** well, if I hadn't saved your *** on that bat, you would have died and lost that xp you worked so hard to gain, and I most definately would not have searched for a raise.

Flame me all you want for saving your ***, but I never did anything to deserve having my credit card stolen and to be ****** over like this, and to say "what goes around, comes around" is making things a lot worse for yourself, because if you keep it up.. your Kazham days will be ****.

I'll come to you, and steal $4000 from you, and you'll see how it feels, I'm in extreme financial distress until I get this dealt with, but you don't seem to care do you?

And I know why.. Because I'm such a ******* ***. god.. I'm truly sick of you people... Punisher is a jealous child, a coward at that, along with the rest of the people in your LS.

But, actually Harkette, I do admire your willingness to come on here and speak your mind, maybe your LS members will learn something from it, instead of telling people I was talking **** about them.

I got a /tell from someone named Lamalas the other day, he was flipping out on me because Punisher had told him I was talking **** about him.

First of all, I don't know Lamalas. Second of all, If I wanted to talk **** about him, I wouldn't say it to Punisher, I'd either say it to his face, or to one of my actual friends. And last, but not least.. it was said that I was talking **** through the Carnage Linkshell... if I recall correctly though, last time I was on that LS, I was talking **** about Punisher, and was thus booted from it.. which, I would say I was proud of, but it's very easily accomplished, considering you're an insecure bunch of children.

I've had enough of you Harkette... one more /emote, or /say comment from you, and I will not be held responsible for my actions.

You have been warned.

btw,for those that even care, I spoke with my credit card company's fraud department, they're looking into it at the moment, but until then, I still have the charges on me.. I know it's going to be solved though. Thanks for the advice everyone, you've been a great help, with the exception of one.

Thought I might as well add this.. Harkette currently plays a THF/WHM combo, for party purposes. I'm surprised your best buddy Punisher hasn't jumped you for that yet, Harkette.

Listen, homeslice, this has nothing to do with Punisher. That, above all, is annoying me the most. I've known Punisher for like, 2 weeks, and hardly run around as a oh-so-devoted Punisher fan girl. Not that I have anything against him or anything... err... that's not the point. Anyway, you're a bit uptight. And what the **** are you going to do, anyway? I could provoke you to ****, and it wouldn't conflict with the T.O.S. anymore than your frequent verbal rapings do. So... go play toughguy somewhere else. I'll do as I please, but most of all I am NOT a mindless drone to the Carnage linkshell.

(For the record, we could have toasted the bat. But I thanked you at the time anyway.)

Harkette I pity you, to come on this thread and bring in game instances to flame something that happens to someone in real life, grow up. Funny how you try to to use the TOS as a way to justify your actions. Keep in mind that higher levels can ***** a lower level more than vise versa. But then again what else to expect from a friend of Punisher, figures why he and most of the people in the Carnage LS are shunned. Your name will be one I remember.

Dran, hopefully things go better for you. I'm sorry to hear what happened and totally sympathise for your financial loss. I don't know you well, but good luck to you, hopefully we'll continue to see you on Siren after Nov. 1.

Hey Bro, hang in there man, things should get better. Like i said my bro went throught the same thing, hopefully the CC companies will realize you did'nt make those charges. BTW did you contact the police and file a report. If you did that should make it easier to get the credit back.

BTW Harkette Grow Up , i don't exactly know what is your beef with Drano , but to say something like that is really F'ed up... Let's see how you feel if someone steals your CC's and idenity... So grow the F' up ...

Hey Harkette wth are you doing talkin sh*t to someone who is leaving the game like that. If you have any morals I'm still not able to see them. People like you ruin this game for those who try to make it enjoyable...
Drano bro I've only recently met you on FFXI and am sad to hear you are going. From what i know about you, you seem to be a solid player. I am not saying I am a saint, bc i know i have many flaws, but if it means anything you have made a friend out of me. :)

GoodLuck in all you do,
Art :D

P.S. I hope u come back sometime!

Hey Drano...

Good luck w/ all the CC stuff. The same thing happened to my wife, and we eventually got the CC charges dropped, but it just took a little time (about a month or two).

I hope you manage to work something out so you can keep playing.

See ya around.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news concerning this issue.

Everything has been sorted out, I no longer need to worry about those charges on my card.

The bad news... while I was asleep last night, my brother (who lives with me) went onto FFXI, and set a member password, so I can't even access the game. Better yet, he cancelled it, completely deleted my account.

It can be retrieved by Jan. 1st, and will be.

Thank you to all my friends, and some of you I don't know, for the support, it means a lot.

Also, at the moment I am pestering POL to remove this password, yet they say they can't.. but they have to have some way of retrieving it for those who forget it.
