The strangest job combo I've ever seenFollow

I was leveling in the Crawler's Nest a few days ago, it had been a few hours and the party was a pretty good one. Well our tank said that his wife had come home (d'oh that means time to go for sure) and that we should try and find a replacement. For some reason lately Tanks have been at a tremedous shortage around the mid 40 lvls. Well the only available person tankwise was in Jeuno... A Mithra WAR/BRD, I was tempted to pass her by but decided instead to go ahead and invite her. She arrived shortly thereafter and we started to fight. I will be damned if I had never seen anyone hold aggro like this Mithra. I used a divine seal Curaga and never took a hit. I asked how it was that she did it and was told that the songs helped add hate. Is this true ? Has anyone else seen this combo before... and if so was it as effective as the experience I had ?

They add some hate. Don't think too much. I'd think war/whm curing would cause more hate.

The benefit I see is that the songs are area effect. So she is able to give her fellow melee that are damage dealing, dmg and acc buffs. I personally have an issue with war/whm's... maybe cause they had an issue with me saying pld's are better tanks. ^^

As a Bard myself, I'd say that she's only partially right. The amount of hate generated by songs is miniscule. We're talking, a single Provoke will out-hate every song in a Bard's ******* - even with Soul Voice running.

I typically sing anywhere from 8-10 songs per battle (some buffs, some debuffs) and the creature will never bat a lash at me. Figure in that, as /BRD, this person's songs were only half as effective and I doubt they make very good hate-management tools. I'd say your Mithra tank was just really good at managing hate with her other tools.

I kind of thought the same thing... but... the only problem was... she would start singing during battles but still not lose aggro. Maybe the rest of us were on top of our game as well though. Which always helps aggro management for a tank.

Yeah it was prob luck. There are times im tanking and all i gotta do is provoke and heal once in a while and other times i gotta work alot harder and send a provoke wait a bit a heal wait a bit flash and everything else to keep hate.

Biggest issue is it takes so long for a song to activate and you stop attacking while singing. Only get 1 song not 2 can't use an instrument just so much gimping when Bard is subbed.

IMHO you lose much more than you gain....

could the song she was playing be boosting a feature of hers that would egt her hate? perhaps attack buff? or i might just be guessing on this one but maybe hp regen adds hate as hp regens? dunno O.O

Yeah I totally understand what you mean about losing hate from less attacking... it was kind of making me wonder as well, but it was working so no complaints. In response to the last post, the only song she would play was indeed Armys Paeon... so maybe that does have something to do with it.

DUDE I PTED WITH HER TOO!! SHE ROCKS!!

Its cause Foe Lullaby adds MASSIVE hate. If youve ever done BCNM-40 and you see 3 vokes and a Barrage go off on a White Mandy and then the thing still dont turn, youll understand.

first time i was in tarongi for dhamel hunting i was a 12whm/6war... that's a weird combo...

i did it for the HP boost... that and i was noob..

anyhoo it worked out for the best... the two tanks in the party were ******** so after a few times of them not voking off the other whm in the party, I voked the yagudo mendicant off of him and killed it. (ok, it was 80% dead anyway)

needless to say the party wet themselves when they saw my provoke macro going off.... :D

RDM/WAR doing a makeshift blink tank.

I didn't think it would work, most of the party didn't think it would work, the leader decided to give it a try. Huh, it worked. o.0
