Random questions that I always forget to askFollow

#1 Sep 14 2004 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all, me again. I was smoking a cigarette when I had a brilliant idea. Yeah, I do that alot (whether I'm talking about smoking cigarettes or having brilliant ideas I'll leave to your assumptions:).
There are a number of questions that have occurred to me at one point or another that I have simply forgotten to ask my linkshell/friends/parents about, or that I've only asked one or two people but would like a general consensus on. I've listed them below. Some of these questions are opinion-based, others have factual answers that only the boys and girls at SquEnix seem to know, and still more are just flat facts I've never thought to ask about.
Oh, and if you yourself have any random questions you've never thought to ask, don't hesitate to post them to this thread. :)

- Do a player's chances to get drops from any given mob of a lesser level decrease as the level difference increases between these mobs and the player?

-Is steal rate lowered on too weak mobs?

-Is the drop rate the same for all non-NM mobs?

-Phalanx. Red mage with warrior subjob. Not a taru. Tankable?

-Does anyone else agree with me that "bounce voking"(using 2 or 3 people with DD main and WAR sub to voke the mob at varied intervals so as to evenly split the damage taken) is a more tactical, more intelligent, just plain better approach to partying than having a single tank taking all the damage, as long as everybody has their updated gear?

-Can a Ranger effectively save money by making his own arrows?

-Is it possible to lose fame by doing the San D'Oria quest entitled "Blackmail"?

-Should Neorei be committed to an institution?

-Why does Square Enix hate North Americans?

Obviously, I threw a couple in there for laughs. I probably didn't get any. *sighs* Anyway, any insights you have on these and any others I forgot and decide to post later would be just peachy.

Squeenix has said that it does not. I don't have the link to that handy though.

No way. As a Red Mage with Phalanx, my experience is that it reduces damage by a fixed number based on your Enhancing Magic skill. What this means is for weaker enemies you'll be reducing a significant portion of the damage. Against IT enemies, however, you'll prevent a small percentage and will still take more damage than actual tanks due to your low Def and Vit. It's really more for farming/soloing.

Depends on the arrows if your woodworking skill is low. Certain are profitable, others are not. However, if your woodworking is high, you can HQ the synths, producing 66 or 99 arrows per attempt. When you can do that regularly, it's always cheaper to craft than to buy.

Nah. He's crazy, but crazy in a good way.

Not really. I must admit I've never tried this, but whether one person or three people are taking damage, you're still taking approximately the same total damage across the party. All this does is make more work for the healer, because they have more people to keep track of. An alternate strategy that I've always wanted to try is bounce voking (or nuking) at a far enough distance that the mob never gets a chance to damage anyone. It walks halfway there and then gets voked back to someone else. That seems like it would take too much concentration and timing though... I'm lazy.

Also the 30 second recharge on provoke you would need an awful amount of vokers. With 6 it would still be 5 secs between vokes. Maybe work with an full alliance with 2 pt's of vokers and 1 pt on nukers. lol that be kinda interesting actually.

I have seen bounce voking. I dont think it was all that on purpose, but it has happened, where a mob will literally bounce beetween 3 vokers, and they heach have to keep voking to keep the mob from the BLM. Anyways as a WHM, it was a disaster, so i dont think its a great idea. Just my opinion.

I agree with the post above me... as a white mage I u]HATE[/u] bounce voking. I burn about 2 or 3 times as much mana as I normally do when I have to heal 3 people rather than 1. Also I got my butt kicked pretty bad one time when all three voked off the black mage who I then cast a cure II on and I received aggro and nobody had emergency voke to help me for what seemed like an eternity and then they all did it at once again.. LOL Ill take a Paladin that can hold aggro like a champ any day over 3 people that pass it like a hot potato.

I wanted to give my 2 cents on bounce voking or what I call multiple tank parties. These have thier place expecially in lower level parties or non-traditional parties. For example it helps a Dunes party play without a WHM. The thing that is hard is for everyone to play well enough with each other that it doesn't all fall apart.
