Let's Get Rid of Opticon OurselvesFollow

#1 May 15 2009 at 12:51 PM Rating: Excellent
I think as a community that we need to band together to make Opticon's in game life on Seraph extremely uncomfortable. Most recently I gave him grace and allowed him into my linkshell as a sign of good faith because he professed to me his desire to change. He promptly destroyed all faith and trust by calling every one who entered my linkshell "*****". I had to boot him and ban him from the linkshell. After doing so he proceeded to harass my linkshell by creating a new shell under the name vegasofvanadiei and making it the same color. He then handed out pearls to No.Obs and proceeded to break them telling them the linkshell leader booted them. He then told them to send me a tell asking why. I dealt with angry No.Oblet tells for about 2 weeks about broken pearls. As well as several GM calls over the course of that time frame to see if they cold assist in helping me resolve the issue. I deal with enough legitimate people who are ****** off at me because I am a ***** adding a slew of new players to that mix it becomes a bit much.

This person uses Final Fantasy as a tool to harass people. Article 3 Section 1 of the user agreement states:

3.1 Prohibited Activities.
You may not use the Game or PlayOnline for any activities that are illegal, fraudulent, or a violation of the rights of any third party. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the following acts and activities are strictly prohibited and shall, without prejudice to any other rights or remedies that SEI may have, be cause for immediate termination of your PlayOnline account and your right to play the Game (or any other services) in connection therewith:

(a) Any activities consisting of selling, purchasing, or exchanging, "gil" (or any other in-Game currency), accounts, characters, "a playerfs time and effort spent playing the Game," or Game items, for value (such as real currency) by any method, including, Internet auctions or other online exchanges;
(b) The use of the Game for the purpose of, in furtherance of, or in preparation for, committing any illegal acts (e.g., gambling) or otherwise violating any applicable local, state, national or international law, rule or regulation;
(c) The interference with, disruption of, or "hacking" of, the Game or the PlayOnline Service or any servers, networks or related websites, or the failure to obey any procedures, policies, regulations or other requirements of any networks connected to the PlayOnline Service;
(d) Any intellectual property infringement or trade secret violation; this includes the unauthorized use, duplication, transmission, display, performance or distribution of any intellectual property relating to the Game or PlayOnline Service, or owned by any third party, or any other commission of any act of copyright, trademark, or patent infringement, trade secret infringement or misappropriation;
(e) The impersonation of any employee of SEI or any SEI partner or affiliate, any other user of the Game or the PlayOnline Service, or any other person, in a manner intended to deceive or mislead any third party, or to access the account of another Game player or PlayOnline user;
(f) The use of the Game or the PlayOnline Service to harass SEI, its employees, or any third parties, including other users of the Game and PlayOnline Service, or to solicit, encourage or threaten bodily harm, the destruction of property (including data belonging to SEI), or to violate any agreement between you and SEI; and
(g) Use of any cheat codes or cheat devices.
(h) In addition, SEI does not consent to or authorize any recording or reproduction of any communications between SEI and you. You may not record, reproduce or publish any communication with SEI. In addition to any other rights or remedies that SEI may have, you may also be subject to criminal and civil sanctions and fines.

Under the United States Code Title 18 Subsection 1514(c)1. Harassment is defined as "a course of conduct directed at a specific person that causes substantial emotional distress in such a person and serves no legitimate purpose" and is subsequently illegal according to this federal article.

Since Square Enix fails to protect us as a player base I am calling every one who speaks English to assist in removing this cancerous blight on our server. Linkshell leaders talk to your members. Tell every one not to buy items from his bizzar, ignore his shouts and refuse to be in party with him. Refuse to pearl him if you are a sackholder or linkshell owner. Black list him if you see him on so he can not talk to you and generally ignore him. If he harasses you calla GM immediately and report him. One of two things will happen: 1) he will quit the game because he will be unable to progress 2) he will change servers. If we all work together as one unit, one voice, one mind that his type of behavior will not be tolerated it will send a message to other on the server like him. I can not think of a better person to make an example out of then Opticon. Let's send a message to all the dishonest and destructive players by making Opticon's ingame life as unbearable as he has made it for others, that we will not accept this on Seraph. I call on every one regardless of your affiliations and/or relationships with myself or others he has harmed do this out of your sense of duty and honor to uphold what is right and just. To protect our community for the greater good of us all.

My last thoughts: it is writen on this website "Square Enix responds on the forum" - So my question to SE is why make a rule and not up hold it? I have been asking for this player to be reprimanded for this behavior for almost 3 months in GM reports. I have not witnessed one banning by Square Enix over it because his acts continue on an ongoing basis. Even after he has openly admitted to acts of fraud in ingame communication, even after he has been reported for such acts of harassment by myself as well as others, you have done nothing to protect your player base from this vile, harmful player, Why is that? I think all of Seraph deserves an answer.

I don't know what gets him off, but he's been harassing me on ffxiah.com lately, posting on my character wall that I hacked accounts because I /slapped him in Jeuno.

The problem with your idea though is that other people will still think that he can change and will let him in, giving him a new outlet for whatever it is that he does.

A couple of months ago already I saw that a ls was in the same party as Opticon. I asked him if he was aware of the fact what kind of player this Opticon person actually is, and he answered by telling me that he "read something about him on Alla yeah".

He didn't care. He wanted exp. points.

Now this opportunistic behavior and this immense amount of faith some people still seem to have in the ability of others to come to their senses within only a couple of weeks (!) will alway be the reason why people like Opticon can do what they like best, namely ruining something good for others because they are too limited to create something good on their own or they can only be happt when they see somebody else feel miserable. THAT is where they are at, and that is why they will never change.

And really, even if Opticon would steal another 5 KC's and even if people more people pop up saying ther are sorry for giving Opticon the benefit of the doubt despite the stories and evidence, the only thing he has to do is say Sorry in this thread and some hearts will melt anyway. And there will always be a total idiot who comes up with the wise words that what happened is a thing of the past that cannot be changed and that we all have to look forward now.

It's only the thought of their good intentions that doesn't make me hate these people, cause really ... what they basically do is jeopardizing the fun of a number of other players just because they want to give ONE person - who most probably already had 5 years of fun packed in only a couple of months - a second chance or the benefit of the doubt.

Nonetheless, nice attempt^^

Do you have some white panties? If so, DOUBLE TEAM GO!
You know, getting bored while lfp is pretty dangerous when you have these babies.
bored in whitegate~1
bored in whitegate~2

As you can see, my resume' for hazardous harassment with intent to blind is fairly extensive.

Do you really think Square Enix cares about the in-game shinanigans of one idiot player, or even a dozen idiot players? They're a company whose sole purpose is to make money. And as long as they get that money, they could care less about who gives it to them. Why else do you think we see so many bannings every month, yet we still have so many RMTs sending us /tells and price manipulating? It does a good job at reassuring the unassuming player that SE is taking care of them. And at the same time, these banned players still have an avenue to return to their old habits while paying SE their money.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but Opticon doesn't care about your rational train of thought. He's a child. The whole objective of such antics as Opticon's is to offend every reasonable sense you have and make you uncomfortable. I'm sure he's getting a kick out of the fact that intelligent players are even considering him such a prominent "threat" or nuisance that we need to "unite" against him. If we should unite, it shouldn't be for such a cause. You don't fight the unreasonable with reason.

Ask yourselves honestly: do you really think he enjoys the game that much to begin with? He only recently hit MNK75 after spending months in the 50s and 60s, and it looks terrible. He has no legitimate chance of getting any gear that requires more than 6 people to get. He can only get as much as his money can get him. It allows him a decent selection of gear, but it can only take him so far. He'll never get the endgame gear that can really improve his character and he'll remain that way as long as his reputation precedes him. He can only go so far now.

Remember his bad deed and ignore him. Keep him out of your linkshells, don't invite him to any NM parties that give armor or money drops (he's even more likely steal them now that everyone identifies him as a lowly thief), and in general just don't talk to him unless you have to. He's a common annoyance and will probably leave if enough people stop paying attention to him. Don't bother giving him the satisfaction of making him into a spectacle. He is not clever enough to deserve it.

I'd add that the majority of "new" linkshell leaders have the same attitude as SE does. Obviously SE doesn't give a **** as long as they are collecting their $$$ per month.

Not including long standing endgame shells, most leaders on our server just don't listen to anything negative about their new members. As long as they are getting the warm bodies to throw at <insert nm or hnm or god name> they don't give a **** about the rep of their new members.

Any other topics on Opticon or his kind are really just a waste of our time. The only shells he will be able to get in at this point are fresh LS's that are hurting for members (and these shells probably won't last long as their recruitment pool is exactly this type of player).

I have been wasting my time trying to "warn" other leaders about a player here recently (See FYI---> Krynost) to no avail. Really all I have been doing is making myself look like a drama queen / *** / call it what you will.

Again, this is a waste of your time, and the only thing you (or I, or anyone) will accomplish by "warning" other players is making yourself look like an ***.

I for one am happy these posts are made. I (like most of the people responding) don't think much will come of this, someone will still be suckered into giving him a chance, and he will be allowed to continue on like he has. But that's no reason to discourage people coming here and trying to stop him.

I can personally make sure they (opticon and krynost both) won't get into any of my LSs, so while this posts may not be a complete success, and get them run off the servers... they still potentially saved 80ish people from having to deal with him and possibly be stolen from.
