well, it seems the rumor about the worm that stole account info by visiting certain websites was true afterall

don't give feluu gil or items or whatever until SE's "investigation" is over...it's not me playing the char for the time being

4 years of playing down the drain.........change your pws now and then guys...can't be too safe

Well, it seems the rumor about the worm that stole account info by visiting certain websites was true after all. Of course, for some reason, that didn't stop me from going to those sites even a month after it's been known that they have these worms.

I would hate to lose any one of my 3 accounts to hackers, but as long as I got them back, naked and empty even, it saves me 3 years of releveling.

If you get lucky and end up with just rr/ex, all the better.

It was all cleared up after about a week or so, but a week's worth of damage is still alot. Only people who got hurt were people with outdated software; with a few exceptions to the ones whos virus or spyware scanners did not pick up the trojan when IE downloaded it without asking. There is a way to set IE to not run scripts without asking you first. Sadly almost no one uses this setting, thus why the masses scream Firefox+noscript > IE.

Either way, firefox with noscript is just the easier method(re: less complicated). However yesterday realplay iview window bug thing showed its ugly face again on ffxi atlas, I think it was. It was only a few hours, but it takes advantage of an un-updated realplayer exploit and a few hours is all it needs to hit hundreds of people again.

Definitely call SE and have your information ready because they are NOT pushing people away with a cold shoulder anymore, they are taking records because they are planning some sort of method to return accounts. =D

I wouldn't give up just yet. The worm attacks were mostly last month and all the sites that did have the bugs have been patched (ffxisomepage). You should call SE and find out the details. They can tell you which server the account is on if it was stolen.

- Do not access websites with unknown or suspicious content.
(Don't use the internet)
