Hi, I'm Quirk, a Lvl 15 THF

Okay, I've been on this site for a month and bought the game 3 weeks ago. Did the research ;)

Anyways, I'm having trouble with my Macro's and a basic understanding of them. I just got Sneak Attack and I've been doing some reading up on it. Long story short, could someone review this Macro chain and tell me if it's correct. What I'm looking for is to use the timer so I can ready a second SA in as little time as possible.

/party Readying SA and WS attack
/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait 60
/echo Sneak Attack is Ready
/ws "Wasp Bite" <t>

Thanks

First of all, I don't know why you want to do Wasp Sting after the timer for you SA is up. Other than that, everything look tiptop.

Ok, if it's an SA + WS macro, you might want to move the /ws "Wasp Bite" <t> closer to where you activate Sneak Attack. The way macros work in this game is that it would stay in a line until the command is finished. For example, you macro would Wasp Sting 60 seconds after you activate SA. Also, if anytime during the 60 second wait for the SA ready message to pop up and you activate another macro, all the commands in this macro would cancel. Hope that helped!

My Sneak Attack/Fast Blade macro (yes, before Viper Bite it's recommended THF do not use Dagger) is...

/p Prepping Sneak Attack/Fast Blade (TP at <tp>)
/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait 1
/ws "Fast Blade" <bt>
/wait 60
/echo Sneak Attack Ready

So yeah. Hope that helped some.

One thing i have noticed was the lack of Provoke and TP macros by people. I was PTing in Yhoator Jungle with 2 people who didnt even know what a macro was. :(

Here are 2 pretty basic macros that would help out a PT alot.

This is for the Tanks (or anyone with the Ability to Voke)

/p Im Provoking <t>
/ja "Provoke" <bt>
/wait 15
/p Provoke in 15
/wait 15
/p Provoke Ready!

If you feel like its creating too much spam in the log, switch the /p to /echo so u know the timer.

And this other 1 is very basic, but will make your life a WHOLE lot easier when setting up Skill Chains.

/p My TP is <tp>

or

/p "Weapon Skill Name" is at <tp>

Both of these are very helpful for me, and thought i would share them. Enjoy!

In areas such as Yuhtunga/Yhoator jungles, <bt> is your best friend.

Using <bt> in your macros targets only the monster that is currently claimed by your party(i.e. the one you're fighting against). This helps prevent all of the miscasts or miscues when fighting, thus avoiding aggroing that White Lizard who happens to be strolling by. >.>

Additionally, try not to make your macros sound stupid. Keep them as basic as possible. Here's mine, for example(this is my PLD):

/p (Provoke)----> <t>
/ja "Provoke" <bt>
/wait 15
/echo Provoke in 15 seconds!
/wait 15
/p (Provoke)(Ready!)

Try this

/party Readying SA and WS attack
/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait 1
/ws "Viper Bite" <pt> (- party's targer, not just your target)
/wait 49
/party Sneak Arrack Ready in 10s

This way your viper bite will hit your pt's target even if you accidentlaly target someting else. You alse let your party know that your SA is going to be available 10 seconds in advance, thereby enabling them to prepare for your SA. This is important because as you start to PT with more you will start to skillchain and you will be the one that closes the chain with a SA stacked WS. Hope this helps.

Redo your macro to:

/p (blah blah SA+WS on <t>! whatever)
/ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
/wait 1
/ws "Wasp Sting" <t>

The prob was that you were firing SA...then telling the game to wait 60 seconds before using Wasp Sting, by which time your Sneak Attack would have already been used on a regular hit. ^^

Also, there is no need to /echo anything to yourself anymore. If you use any other macro before one with an /echo finishes, you won't receive the /echo. Here's what you should do instead: pick a macro spot where you want to echo your timers to yourself, and type in the following on seperate lines:

/recast "Something Or Other"

Be it a job ability, spell, 2 hour, etc., anything that is on a timer. Use the same rules for quotation marks, capitlization etc. as applies to other macros. So a THF's recast macro might include any of the following:

/recast "Sneak Attack"
/recast "Trick Attack"
/recast Steal
/recast Hide
/recast Flee
/recast "Perfect Dodge"

When you hit this macro, the game will automatically echo back to you your remaining time, like so:

[Sneak Attack] 0:14
[Trick Attack] 0:15
...etc.
[Perfect Dodge] 1:20:30

And so on.

One final piece of advice, I would suggest that you set up several macros for your THF abilities. These are the ones I use:

1 - main weaponskill I'll be using, on its own
2 - Sneak Attack on its own (mostly for solo use at my level ^^)
3 - Sneak and Trick Attack
4 - Sneak, Trick, and the weapon skill I'll be using stacked together

At your level you're simply trying to SA as much as possible and stack your WS with it when you can, so ignore #3 for now, and amend #4 to be SA+WS. So in your case, just hit your /recast macro to find out when you can use SA again. If you don't have TP by the time it's up, hit the SA-only macro; if you do have TP, hit the one with SA+WS. Then you're free to spam that /recast macro to find out exactly when you can SA it again. ^^

HTH!
