I'm 25 and I played alot of video games. the start of it all was supermario bros for the nes. I used to play alot of maple story back in college that was my first mmorpg. I just started playing ffxi yesterday my warrior is level six in rahmuh (rahmuh was my fav gf in ff8) anyway I was looking for some help square did not explain this weird red ? that is next to my charaters name. could any of you tell me what it means?. also where is everybody? I only seen about 13 people so far. Did I pick the retarded kids world or what? see you all later

WELCOME TO RAMUH.... the forums here are... how do i say it... slow.

The red "?" next to your name just shows that you are a new character. It goes away when you hit level 7... or if it is really bothering you, then you can remove it by going to the menu (on the side of your screen), selecting configuration, global settings and then remove new adventurer status.

As for only seeing 13 people, i'm not sure how that was possible beucase usually you can stand next to the Auction hall (in south San Doria) and see 50 people in a matter of minutes... On any given night there are 2000 people on (more during prime time and weekends), so that may have just been a fluke.

As long as you aren't begging for gil, generally most people will be helpful if you explain that you are new.

thanks for the help but all i see is a language filter and a auto disconnect features maybe its different on the 360 version i'm using. also does moving my character around during a fight have any effect like running in back of it reduce damage or anything?

Only with certain job abilities active - but at low level (unless you're a level 15+THF) it doesn't matter where you stand in correlation to the monster and will not effect yours or the monsters damage.

Also, if you haven't checked it out already FFXIclopedia is a great resource for just about everything you'll need to know in FFXI.

Which nation did you start in?

not sure if you will read this again, but like some of the above Sirlancelot said... the encyclopedia is another good resource for information.

Feel free to look me up in game on either wolfbane or shaile. hehe in case you aren't sure how to do that.. you can just type /sea all (name). I won't be on until late tonight, but i will look for you then

Hey welcome to Ramuh, if wolf hasn't taken care of you yet, I'll try looking for you tonight, this boards may be slow but a few of us tend to look this way once a day or so, so if you have doubts on anything be sure to ask.

btw Maple Story is fun, but nothing compared to this heh.

it certainly feels that way wolf

but yeah dont throw beastmen seals, also try collecting stacks of items, and sell them in the Auction House, specially the cristals.

the auction house it's basicaly the place where you buy and sell most of the things in this game, actual ingame shops have limited uses.
