Hey guys, I just returned to FFXI for the first time since 2004... so this has been a long time coming. There is a ton of new stuff to get used to! These exp rings help immensely and it seems like easy challenge monsters still yield more exp than they used to (can't be sure about that, still a little foggy on the memory).I haven't started partying yet but I'm curious to see any new changes to that, hopefully less annoying macro text :D. I was expecting the game to be empty quite honestly but am surprised to find my old server of Ragnarok is still kicking fairly well, with a nice crowd in Bastok, etc. I chose MNK for my class just to keep things simple for my return. Here's hoping I can find a party.
Which brings me to my questions: I've only hit lvl 11 so I was wondering if I could get some ideas of what to expect as I begin my journey into this much different Vana'diel? Also does anyone know of any good Linkshells so I don't feel quite so... alone? The game has been dreadfully quiet this far. My IGN is Taikobo, (oh hey just like my forum name, convenient!) so feel free to give me a tell if you want. I used to be an Elvaan WAR many years ago by the same name... I never got past 40 though so I doubt I left that much of a mark.

I can't hope to truly answer such (very good but) broad questions; a LOT has changed!
Get yourself a good LS if you don't have one currently. Check the thread stickied atop this server-forum, and/or check out axiom-online.org/forums (my main LS). I can also recomment a couple of other fine shells.
A good resource for general lookups for game info is http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Starters_Guide/Bastok (and that wiki, generally).

Linkshell wise, I'm afraid I don't know of too many, being a UK player I play in a UK specific LS, although I have heard good things about a linkshell called triumverate , which may be worth looking into.
